Job description

Job Description

Our client is seeking a Retail Design Technician to support the technical execution of their retail design initiatives across North America. This role is critical to the design development and implementation of physical retail spaces, requiring a blend of technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in commercial design, an eye for detail, and the ability to translate concepts into precise technical documentation. This is a dynamic opportunity to contribute to the evolution of retail environments with a brand that values innovation and thoughtful design.

This is a contract position requiring hybrid work from our client's office in North Vancouver 2 days per week. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities:
  • Drive the creation and maintenance of template drawing sets, schedules, and design details for the North American retail fleet

  • Prepare project layouts, architectural specifications, millwork, lighting directions, and construction-ready design documentation

  • Produce test fit layouts for real estate meetings in collaboration with senior designers and stakeholders across operations, visual merchandising, brand, and construction

  • Develop and maintain technical drawings for global retail standards and store design projects

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external architect partners to ensure accurate implementation of design details and brand standards

  • Manage all internal technical documentation and uphold strict drawing and documentation standards

  • Ensure all work adheres to current building codes and ADA requirements in the US and Canada

  • Participate in the onboarding of external vendors and consultants, sharing updated documentation and standards

  • Maintain a high level of accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail in all design outputs
  • Work effectively in both independent and team-based environments, contributing to a culture of learning and continuous improvement
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related discipline

  • 3-5 years of commercial design experience, ideally within retail, hospitality, or mixed-use environments

  • Strong expertise in construction detailing, with the ability to bring design concepts to life through technical execution

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit; additional proficiency in Adobe Suite, SketchUp, Enscape, and Smartsheet is an asset

  • Demonstrated knowledge of building codes and accessibility regulations in both Canada and the US

  • Ability to translate 3D concepts into 2D technical drawings with precision and clarity

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

  • Open to feedback and driven to problem-solve and learn in a collaborative setting
