Job description

Why BCAA?

Feel proud of what you do and help shape the future of BC at a BC Top Employer. We’re driven by purpose – delivering peace of mind to one in three BC households with insurance, roadside assistance, auto repair, Evo Car Share and Evolve E-Bike Share. With a long history of keeping roads safe and giving back in ways that build stronger communities, we offer a wide variety of meaningful, rewarding careers that move BC forward.

We are currently hiring a HR Specialist based in our Head Office in Burnaby, reporting to the Manager, People Services.

Help deliver a great employee experience at BCAA. As an HR Specialist, you’ll support the people, programs and processes that keep our organization moving. From answering employee questions and coordinating employment changes to supporting People & Culture projects and turning HR data into insights, your work will make a difference across the employee lifecycle.

Working closely with our People Services Managers and broader People & Culture team, you’ll bring accuracy, care and fresh ideas to everything you do.

Who you are:

  • You’re service-minded. You provide helpful, timely support and make it easier for employees and leaders to navigate HR processes.
  • You’re organized and detail-oriented. You manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and keep documentation and data accurate.
  • You exercise sound judgment. You handle sensitive information with discretion and know when to seek guidance.
  • You’re curious and resourceful. You ask thoughtful questions, investigate issues and find practical solutions.
  • You’re collaborative. You build strong working relationships and contribute wherever the team needs support.
  • You look for better ways to work. You’re comfortable with technology and interested in using automation and AI-enabled tools to improve processes and the employee experience.

What you’ll do:

Support employees and leaders

  • Respond to general HR enquiries about policies, programs, systems and collective agreements.
  • Support People Services Managers with their portfolios and shared team priorities.
  • Coordinate People & Culture communications, events and resources.

Support the employee lifecycle

  • Coordinate onboarding, probationary reviews, employee changes, offboarding and exit interviews.
  • Prepare offers, employment agreements, employee change letters, termination letters and separation packages.
  • Provide employee relations administrative support, including investigation coordination, documentation and follow-up.
  • Support union administration and collective bargaining, including seniority lists, leave reporting, meeting logistics and materials.
  • Support vacation planning, job evaluations and tracking of temporary assignments, accommodations and work permits.

Keep our systems and data accurate

  • Maintain employee records and process Workday transactions to support accurate data and timely payroll.
  • Resolve HRIS issues with partner teams, complete data audits and track key employment deadlines.
  • Prepare reports and analyze HR data and exit survey results to identify trends and improvements.

Support compliance and continuous improvement

  • Support compliance activities, policy updates and monitoring of employment requirements.
  • Coordinate privacy requests and prepare sponsorship and work permit documentation.
  • Improve People Services processes through simplification, automation and AI-enabled tools.

What you bring:

  • A diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years experience in HR administration, coordination or a similar role supporting employees and leaders.
  • Working knowledge of BC employment standards, human rights and privacy requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to create professional candidate communications and recruitment content.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Copilot.
  • Experience with Workday and supporting a unionized workplace would be an asset.
  • Strong coordination, problem-solving and follow-through skills.
  • Progress toward a CPHR designation would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

The salary range for this position is $64,454.16 to $80,567.76 per year and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 5%, with the opportunity to earn up to 9%.

What we offer:

  • The chance to make a difference every day in the lives of British Columbians, BCAA Members and our communities.

  • Career and personal development to help you grow and reach your goals.

  • Incentives that recognize team and individual sales and performance.

  • Flexible benefits to support your health and lifestyle, and wellness dollars* to keep your body, mind and soul thriving.

  • A competitive rewards package including salary performance bonus programs, pension plan*, and more to help build your personal wealth.

  • Paid time off including vacation, and days for wellness, volunteering, and cultural, spiritual or religious connection.

  • BCAA membership, with valuable perks and Member savings on every day and special spending, from gas and coffee to clothes, sports and event tickets, and hotels.

  • Meaningful, rewarding work for a BC Top Employer known for putting people first and constantly building a better workplace for all our team members.

*for permanent employees
