About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Network Analyst III to join our dynamic IT Infrastructure Operations & Delivery team in Ottawa.

The IT Infrastructure Operations & Delivery team is responsible for the planning, delivery, operation, and support of Canadian Blood Services’ core network services. The team supports office, collection, laboratory, manufacturing, and data centre environments across the country, working with internal technology teams, business partners, telecommunications carriers, and service providers to deliver stable and secure network services.

In this senior technical role, you will support the deployment, maintenance, and operation of Canadian Blood Services’ enterprise network infrastructure, including switching, routing, wireless, firewalls, data centre networking, network monitoring, and related connectivity services.

The role has a strong operational and hands-on focus. You will coordinate and implement network changes, support physical infrastructure and carrier services, troubleshoot complex production issues, and help ensure that solutions are fully documented and transitioned into ongoing operations.

Formula for success

  • Drawing on your senior-level operations engineering experience and advanced networking expertise, you will provide third- and fourth-level support for enterprise network services across Canadian Blood Services. Applying strong technical judgment, you will troubleshoot complex incidents, identify root causes, lead resolution activities, and provide technical guidance during service-impacting events.
  • Leveraging your enterprise infrastructure experience, you will deploy, maintain, and support network hardware and services in office, collection, laboratory, manufacturing, and data centre environments, including routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, load balancers, connectivity, and monitoring platforms.
  • Applying your operational expertise, you will plan and implement production network changes, including validating prerequisites, coordinating resources, documenting implementation and backout procedures, and confirming successful service restoration.
  • Drawing on your experience with site and data centre operations, you will coordinate carrier installations, circuit changes, cabling, equipment installation and replacement, hardware lifecycle activities, connectivity validation, and technical escalations with vendors, field technicians, and local contacts.
  • Utilizing your knowledge of complex network environments, you will contribute to infrastructure standards, operational procedures, monitoring practices, and technical documentation, ensuring that new and changed services are supportable and transitioned effectively into operations.
  • Working collaboratively across Infrastructure, Security, Architecture, Project Delivery, and business teams, you will coordinate technical activities and communicate risks, requirements, and operational impacts.
  • Drawing on your senior technical expertise, you will serve as a technical leader within the team by mentoring analysts, sharing knowledge, promoting operational consistency, and providing guidance during complex troubleshooting, major incidents, and production change activities.
  • Applying sound judgment and accountability, you will participate in the after-hours on-call rotation and respond to incidents based on business impact, service criticality, and operational risk.

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a university degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Networking, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience supporting complex enterprise network infrastructure, including at least three years in a senior third- or fourth-level technical support role.
  • Strong hands-on experience administering, deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise, network security, and data centre technologies.
    Including:

Cisco enterprise routers and switches

Cisco ACI

Cisco Firepower

Cisco ISE

Cisco Meraki and wireless technologies

F5 BIG-IP

NMS and monitoring platforms; in particular Cisco Thousand Eyes, PRTG, LiveAction LiveNX

  • Experience supporting physical network infrastructure and coordinating carriers, vendors, and field technicians in office, operational site, or data centre environments.
  • Experience planning and implementing production network changes using documented implementation, validation, communication, and backout procedures.
  • Working knowledge of LAN, WAN, wireless, firewall, load-balancing, data centre, and software-defined networking concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting structured cabling and telecommunications infrastructure for building construction, renovation, or site expansion projects, including reviewing designs, coordinating contractors, validating installations and test results, and ensuring work complies with applicable standards and documentation requirements.
  • RCDD, BICSI, or other relevant structured-cabling or telecommunications infrastructure certification is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server environments, including DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, Group Policy, and certificate management. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure networking is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems methodically and remain effective during high-priority incidents.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, including maintaining change records, diagrams, inventories, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, including mentoring colleagues and establishing collaborative relationships with clients, vendors, and technology teams.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues, risks, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
A current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is required. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), or other advanced Cisco and related industry certifications are considered assets.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to Canadian Blood Services locations are considered assets.

  • The role includes hands-on work with network equipment and physical infrastructure. This may occasionally involve lifting or positioning equipment, working in telecommunications rooms or data centres, and coordinating work in active operational environments.
