Job description

Job Description

Our client, Sundher Orchards is a family-owned, long-established grower in British Columbia’s renowned cherry industry. With a commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainable farming practices, the organization continues to evolve and expand its operations.   As a result, we are proud to lead the search for a Financial Controller who can bring structure, consistency, and strong financial reporting to their organization and take a lead role in overseeing the timely and accurate delivery of all financial reporting commitments to the bank.   As the successful candidate, you will manage vendor relationships, support strategic decision-making, and ensure the financial discipline and processes required are in place to set the organization up for long-term success. This role also oversees and mentors the internal bookkeeper and works closely with our external accountants at Doane Grant Thornton.

This newly created role offers a unique rhythm : the work is fast-paced from May through September, followed by a slower winter season that can support reduced hours and increased flexibility. This makes the position ideal for someone who enjoys a varied workload and autonomy while still operating at a senior level.

In addition to core financial leadership, the Controller will oversee key agricultural financial functions, including crop costing, seasonal labour forecasting, inventory valuation, capital asset management, and financial reporting aligned with the unique operational cycles of orchard production.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis;
  • Monitor costs (labor, cost per acre / harvest, inventory, packing etc.) and profit margins;
  • Provide timely, accurate bank reporting and ensure all required documentation is complete and consistent;
  • Prepare month-end closings, quarterly and annual financial statements;
  • Oversee internal controls and identify areas for improvement;
  • Manage vendor relationships;
  • Prepare bank and other GL account reconciliations;
  • Collaborate closely with external accountants (Doane Grant Thornton);
  • Support special projects and take on additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • CPA designation not required, a combination of education and experience will be considered;
  • Previous experience in a financial leadership role;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & experience with SAGE 300;
  • Proven leadership ability and a collaborative working style;
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently;
  • An understanding of the financial cycles and cost structures within farming or orchard operations is an asset, along with familiarity with agricultural environments or a readiness to learn their financial intricacies.
  • We anticipate offering the successful candidate $58–$65 per hour (commensurate with related experience), flexibility to work full-time through summer and shift to part-time hours in winter, ability to work from home, opportunity to shape financial structure and strategy within a growing company and access to additional expertise from Doane Grant Thornton when required.

    If this opportunity aligns with your experience and you’re interested in contributing to the continued success of S. Sundher Orchards, we invite you to apply by January 5, 2026.

    We look forward to hearing from you!
