Matchbox Consulting Group has been asked by a client, a crown corporation serving municipal electrical engineering firm to search for a Distribution Engineering Team Lead to head the company's Distribution department, spearhead upcoming projects, and oversee teams.
The Opportunity
The Distribution Engineering Team Lead will head up a specialized group of engineers responsible for some of the company’s most critical and high-value distribution projects.
They are looking for a strong technical leader — someone who can troubleshoot complex distribution challenges, guide design decisions, and create practical solutions grounded in hands-on experience.
The successful candidate will oversee up to 20 active projects at a time, requiring exceptional organization, prioritization, and technical oversight capabilities. Deep familiarity with municipal energy standards and distribution systems is essential.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of distribution engineers working on overhead utility infrastructure projects.

Provide technical oversight and direction on system improvements including:

Voltage upgrades and system optimization

Conversions
-
Overhead distribution design and upgrades

Troubleshoot complex technical issues and develop engineered solutions aligned with provincial standards.

Review and approve detailed design packages, calculations, and system layouts.

Oversee quality control, ensuring compliance with utility, regulatory, and safety requirements.

Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external clients on technical matters.

Manage workload distribution and technical priorities across concurrent projects.

Provide guidance on engineering best practices, risk mitigation, and design optimization.

Support construction and field teams through technical review and issue resolution when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
-
P.Eng. designation in British Columbia
-
5–15 years of progressive experience in electrical distribution engineering.
-
Strong experience in overhead distribution systems.
-
Proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering complex distribution projects.
-
In-depth knowledge of provincial electrical standards, procedures, and technical requirements.
-
Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
-
Class 5 Driver’s License.
Technical Software Requirements
Proficiency in the following tools is required:

Preferred Experience

Experience designing crown or municipal distribution systems.

Background in system voltage conversions and infrastructure modernization.

Experience managing high-volume technical workflows.

Strong field experience supporting construction execution.
