Overview:

PKM Canada Marine Terminal LP is recruiting for a high performing Project Engineer with a passion for making a difference to join our team. This position is based at Vancouver Wharves; a dynamic fast paced marine terminal; located in North Vancouver, B.C and reports to the Supervisor, Operations Engineering. This role is for an Engineer who thrives on ownership, values operational credibility, and wants to see their work directly impact terminal safety, reliability, and performance.

The Vancouver Wharves terminal handles bulk cargo including mineral concentrates, diesel, sulphur, and grain products on behalf of customers. The role is critical to the safe, reliable, and compliant operations of our assets. As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of mechanical sustaining capital projects from inception to commissioning; including, project definition, planning, field execution, and close out. The portfolio focuses on improving existing assets, extending their service life, and implementing production and operational efficiencies. The role is responsible for annual equipment regulatory inspections and repairs. The Project Engineer will act as a technical resource for the operations and maintenance teams and aid with ensuring compliance applicable regulatory and Pembina standards.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Promote Pembina’s culture of “Zero by Choice” and adherence to the Life Saving Rules, and actively embody Pembina’s values;
  • Lead sustaining capital and asset integrity projects for bulk handling systems from concept through commissioning, with accountability for safety, cost, schedule, and quality;
  • Execute regulatory-critical and asset integrity initiatives that support safe, reliable terminal operations;
  • Act as an engineering authority, applying sound judgment, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements to resolve operational and technical challenges;
  • Provide engineering support to operations and maintenance teams, including during emergent and abnormal operating conditions;
  • Manage projects in accordance with Pembina’s Project Delivery & Governance Lifecycle (PDGL) and Management of Change (MOC) processes;
  • Oversee consultants, contractors, and third-party service providers, including RFP development, proposal evaluation, and execution oversight;
  • Issue daily safe work permits for contractors working on projects and supervise contractor work and conduct daily field reviews as required;
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, procurement, and unionized stakeholders to identify opportunities that increase throughput, reduce costs, improve safety, plan and execute sustaining capital work;
  • Contribute to capital planning, budgeting, and forecasting while managing multiple projects and competing operational priorities; and
  • Participate in and actively support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Progressive experience planning and delivering sustaining capital and bulk handling improvement projects in a heavy industrial environment (e.g., ports, mining, energy, or manufacturing);
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Integrated Engineering or Engineering Physics) with relevant bulk handling experience;
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), registered and in good standing with EGBC;
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering design, project cost management, and capital project execution, including RFP development, interpretation of multidisciplinary engineering drawings, cost forecasting, and budgeting;
  • Strong knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices;
  • Technical familiarity with bulk handling systems, industrial equipment, mechanical power transmission, and hydraulic systems is considered an asset;
  • Proficiency with standard engineering tools and software such as AutoCAD, CMMS systems (SAP experience is an asset), and the MS Office suite;
  • Experience working within a gated capital project delivery framework is an asset;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic operational environment;
  • Self-motivated professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work independently and collaboratively to influence outcomes and achieve business objectives;
  • Demonstrates resilience, adaptability, accountability, and a continuous learning mindset, with a commitment to Pembina’s values and inclusive workplace culture;
  • Availability to work evenings or weekends as required to minimize disruption to operations or maintenance schedules;

This position is based out of the Vancouver Wharves terminal in North Vancouver, B.C. successful candidates must live within 50 km of the terminal.

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.

The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. The final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
