Job description

About Draganfly

Draganfly Inc. (the “Company”) has been a recognized technology leader within the commercial UAV space for over two decades. We helped establish the commercial market & adoption of multi-rotor helicopters for public safety, agriculture, aerial imaging, & more. As a leader who helped shape the industry, Draganfly’s focus is on the sale of drone products and services, contract engineering & custom integration product development, and health monitoring products and services.

About The Role

Draganfly Innovations is on the lookout for a seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and validation of mechanical systems for our UAV platforms. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment and enjoys taking designs from concept through prototype, testing, and into production.

You will work across mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure our products are reliable, manufacturable, and aligned with engineering best practices. If you’re passionate about building real hardware - not just CAD - and want to contribute directly to innovative UAV technology, we’d love to meet you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Design & Engineering : Design mechanical parts and assemblies for UAV systems with a focus on performance, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Develop and maintain CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Apply DFM / DFA principles across machined, sheet metal, molded, composite, and additively manufactured components.
  • Support mechanical troubleshooting, failure analysis, and corrective design actions.
  • Manufacturing Readiness & Vendor Interaction : Collaborate with vendors to validate feasibility, materials, tooling constraints, and process capabilities.
  • Support prototype-to-production transition, including BOM cleanup, assembly definition, and documentation preparation.
  • Participate in EVT / DVT activities and update designs based on validation findings.
  • Maintain revision control and support ECO execution throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Prototype Integration & Test Support : Support prototype electrical integration, wiring, and test configurations.
  • Assist with aircraft setup, modifications, and teardown for ground and flight tests.
  • Select and evaluate mechanical and electrical components for test use.
  • Perform basic configuration or software parameter updates required for testing.
  • Document test results and communicate findings to the engineering team.
  • Operational & Team Support : Assist with prototype material receiving, inventory organization, engineering-related orders, and lab upkeep.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, PMO, and engineering groups to support project execution.
  • Provide mentorship and support to junior mechanical engineers as needed.

Who are you really?

  • A Builder at Heart : You love turning ideas into real hardware and thrive when you can design, prototype, test, and iterate.
  • Detail-Oriented but Practical : You balance engineering precision with the realities of timelines, manufacturability, and fast-paced development.
  • A Natural Problem Solver : You enjoy diagnosing issues, running tests, and identifying root causes — and you push for durable, long-term solutions.
  • Collaborative & Curious : You work well with cross-functional teams and enjoy learning from electrical, manufacturing, flight test, and operations colleagues.
  • Hands-On & Resourceful : You’re comfortable using tools, setting up test rigs, modifying builds, and getting deeply involved in prototypes.
  • Ownership-Driven : You take initiative, follow through on commitments, and take pride in delivering high-quality work that makes a real impact.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience in hardware development.
  • Strong CAD proficiency in part and assembly modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience building and testing physical hardware (not CAD-only).
  • Experience working with prototypes, test articles, and iterative development cycles.
  • Experience in UAVs, robotics, aerospace, or electromechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with composite structures and lightweight assemblies.
  • Experience with design validation, environmental testing, or flight testing.
  • Compensation package

  • Competitive salary : $95,000 – $125,000
  • Comprehensive medical and dental benefits, including a Health Spending Account.
  • Matching RRSP program.
  • Generous time-off program, including vacation, wellness days, and the week off between Christmas and New Year’s.
  • Why Join Us

At Draganfly Innovations, you’ll join a collaborative team that values innovation, curiosity, and continuous improvement. We’re in an exciting growth phase, scaling our technologies, product lines, and teams as we continue to shape the future of UAV innovation. Joining us now means becoming part of a company with deep roots in the industry - and bold ambitions for what comes next.

You’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, work on diverse and cutting‑edge projects, and grow your skills alongside passionate experts. We offer competitive compensation, strong benefits, and a supportive environment where your contributions truly matter. Here, you won’t just join a company - you’ll help build what comes next.

As part of our hiring process, all candidates must successfully complete reference checks and a criminal background check.
