Job description
Are you a strategic thinker with the leadership skills to transform a financial department? Randstad Professional is currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Accountant to join a premier HVAC equipment supply company as their Manager of Accounting and Admin Services. In this role, you will not be working directly for Randstad, but for one of our valued clients—a company with 40 years of excellence in the industry.

The Accounting Manager is a critical leadership hire for our client's operations in Calgary. This position is designed for a visionary candidate who is ready to take the lead for the accounting team and get things organized. Our client is looking for a professional who can establish structure and efficiency while remaining deeply hands-on in the day-to-day accounting process. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive accounting services while utilizing sophisticated software to determine precise job costs and manage the financial health of various projects

The Accounting manager will possess a unique blend of technical and interpersonal abilities:
• Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly advanced Excel.
• Strong technical command of Sage 50, SAP Business One, or similar ERP software environments.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for managing relationships with suppliers and partners.
• Proven ability in problem-solving with a keen sense of initiative and a "quick learner" mindset.
• High level of professionalism, tact, and discretion when handling confidential customer and company data.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills to balance ad-hoc responsibilities and project deadlines.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading a team environment.
• Adaptability to navigate software transitions and evolving administrative processes

Advantages
• Competitive salary within the finance & accounting industry standards.
• Opportunity to lead a significant ERP implementation and software transition.
• Stable, full-time hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
• Professional growth within a reputable company celebrating over 40 years of success.
• A collaborative work environment where your leadership in organizing the accounting team is highly valued.

Responsibilities
• Take the lead for the accounting team to organize workflows and improve departmental structure.
• Maintain a hands-on approach to the accounting process, ensuring accuracy in all financial entries.
• Manage the full accounting cycle including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare and analyze periodic financial statements to provide insights into project profitability.
• Execute precise job costing utilizing Sage 50 and SAP Business One to track project expenditures.
• Lead the financial side of project administration by reconciling job revenue, expenses, and purchase orders.
• Play a key role in the transition from SAGE 50 to a new 3rd party ERP software program, Spire.
• Coordinate orders between the company, customers, and manufacturers to ensure seamless delivery.
• Follow up on purchase orders for confirmation, accuracy, and delivery timelines.
• Maintain and develop supply chain relationships to meet sales and inventory requirements.
• Resolve material inventory discrepancies and optimize inventory levels.
• Use advanced spreadsheet and database tools to prepare detailed reports, memos, and professional documents.
• Aid in the continued development and optimization of internal 3rd party software.

Qualifications
• A minimum of a Diploma or Degree in Accounting from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Several years of experience in an accounting or project administration role.
• Demonstrated experience in job costing and financial project management.
• A Project Management diploma or degree is considered a significant asset.
• Proven track record of dealing with customer service-related issues and supplier management.
• Ability to commit to a role requiring extended computer use and high attention to detail.
• Local availability to work in Calgary
