Job description

Senior Architectural Technologist
Surrey, BC
Architecture & Design Firm
Salary: $85,000 - $105,000+
Lead Technical Delivery. Deliver Complex Healthcare Projects. Grow Your Career.

About the Firm

Our client is an established architectural and design practice with a strong reputation for delivering thoughtful, technically complex projects throughout British Columbia.

The firm has built an impressive portfolio across healthcare, education, institutional, civic, community, commercial, and other specialized environments. Their work ranges from renovations and upgrades within existing facilities to major additions, new construction, and complex multi-phase projects.

Healthcare represents an important area of the practice, with teams working on technically demanding projects involving clinical environments, diagnostic and treatment spaces, medical imaging, specialized equipment, mental health, ambulatory care, and other healthcare programs.

The practice brings together strong design thinking, technical expertise, and collaborative project delivery. Senior team members remain actively involved in projects, and technologists are given meaningful responsibility rather than being limited to production.

With a strong pipeline of ongoing healthcare and institutional work, the firm is looking to add an experienced Senior Architectural Technologist to its Surrey team who can operate in a Job Captain capacity and take ownership of drawing production and technical coordination.

Why Join This Team?

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Architectural Technologist who enjoys being close to the technical work but wants greater ownership over projects, teams, and project delivery.

You will work closely with Project Architects, Project Managers, consultants, contractors, and clients while helping drive complex healthcare projects from design development through construction documentation, permitting, tender, and construction.

Healthcare projects require an exceptional level of coordination between architecture, building systems, equipment, consultants, user groups, existing conditions, phasing, and construction activities within operational environments. You will play an important role in bringing all of these pieces together and translating project requirements into coordinated, accurate, and constructible documentation.

This is not a role where you will simply be handed markups to complete. You will be trusted to understand the project, identify issues, coordinate solutions, manage drawing production, and help keep the broader project team moving forward.

The firm also places a strong emphasis on professional development and mentorship. For someone who has developed strong technical capabilities and is ready for greater responsibility, there is considerable opportunity to continue growing into project, technical, and team leadership.

The Role

As a Senior Architectural Technologist, you will operate in a Job Captain capacity and play a key role in the technical delivery and coordination of healthcare and institutional projects.

Working closely with the Project Architect and Project Manager, you will lead and coordinate drawing production from design development through construction documents, permitting, tender, and construction.

You will maintain strong drawing standards, coordinate multidisciplinary consultants, identify technical and coordination issues, develop details, and ensure project documentation is accurate, complete, coordinated, and constructible.

This is a highly hands-on role for someone who is confident working directly within Revit and understands how to independently move drawing packages and project deliverables forward.

You will also have opportunities to mentor intermediate and junior team members, contribute to internal technical standards, and gradually expand your responsibilities as you establish yourself within the practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural drawing production on healthcare and institutional projects.
  • Operate in a Job Captain capacity across complex project teams.
  • Coordinate projects from design development through construction documentation, permitting, tender, and construction.
  • Develop comprehensive and technically accurate drawing packages using Revit.
  • Translate design concepts and project requirements into coordinated construction documents.
  • Coordinate architectural documentation with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, equipment, and specialty consultants.
  • Review consultant drawings and proactively identify coordination issues.
  • Develop plans, elevations, sections, assemblies, details, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate specialized healthcare equipment, building systems, room requirements, and technical interfaces.
  • Support renovations, additions, upgrades, and projects within existing occupied facilities.
  • Assist with phasing and documentation for projects completed within operational healthcare environments.
  • Maintain drawing quality, consistency, accuracy, and established BIM standards throughout project delivery.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary coordination meetings and communicate technical requirements with consultants and project teams.
  • Assist with code reviews, permitting requirements, and coordination with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Support tender and construction through RFIs, shop drawing reviews, site documentation, supplemental instructions, and design changes.
  • Work closely with Project Architects and Project Managers to identify challenges and develop practical technical solutions.
  • Help manage drawing priorities, deliverables, and production schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate team members.
  • Contribute to internal technical knowledge, BIM standards, and project delivery processes.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of professional architectural experience, ideally within a Canadian architectural practice.
  • Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Building Technology, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Healthcare project experience is manditory.
  • Experience with complex institutional projects will also be considered.
  • Proven experience operating at a Senior Technologist or Job Captain level.
  • Strong experience leading and coordinating architectural drawing production.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit and experience working within BIM-based project environments.
  • Strong experience producing comprehensive construction documents and detailed architectural drawing packages.
  • Experience taking projects through design development, construction documentation, permitting, tender, and construction.
  • Strong understanding of architectural detailing, building envelope systems, interior assemblies, construction systems, and constructability.
  • Extensive experience coordinating mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, equipment, and specialty consultants.
  • Strong understanding of the BC Building Code and applicable construction standards.
  • Experience with renovations, additions, and projects within existing buildings is considered a strong asset.
  • Understanding of healthcare planning, clinical environments, medical equipment, infection control, phasing, or work within operational healthcare facilities is highly valued.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify drawing and coordination issues before they reach construction.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of technical deliverables and helping drive project teams toward deadlines.
  • Strong communication, organization, and consultant coordination skills.
  • Collaborative, accountable, personable, and approachable working style.
  • Ability to mentor developing team members and provide clear technical direction.
  • Genuine interest in continuing to develop as a senior technical and project delivery professional.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary, negotiable based on experience.
  • Comprehensive extended health and dental benefits.
  • Health and Lifestyle Spending Accounts.
  • Flexible working arrangements and hybrid work options.
  • Flexible working hours supporting work life balance.
  • Professional development and continuing education support.
  • Opportunity to work on complex and meaningful healthcare projects throughout British Columbia.
  • Exposure to institutional, educational, civic, community, and commercial projects.
  • Strong involvement across multiple phases of project delivery.
  • Collaborative studio environment with access to experienced senior architects and technical leaders.
  • Opportunity to take meaningful ownership of drawing production and project coordination.
  • Long-term opportunity to develop into greater project, technical, and team leadership responsibilities.
  • Supportive environment focused on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous professional growth.
  • Regular company events and team-building activities.

If you're an experienced Senior Architectural Technologist with healthcare project experience who enjoys the technical side of architecture and is ready to take greater ownership of project delivery, this is an excellent opportunity to join an established practice with a strong pipeline of meaningful work.
