Description

Brock Recreation offers on-campus, non-recital instructional dance programs for community members. The goal of these programs is to introduce and develop foundational skills in various dance disciplines while encouraging children and youth to participate in active recreation.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Director, Recreation, Instructors are responsible for planning, organizing and delivering high-quality programs that are engaging, safe and enjoyable for all participants. Instructors are accountable for always ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all registered participants.

Qualifications

  • Completed at least one year of post-secondary education.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a Dance Instructor, Dance Assistant, or in a teaching/instructional role.
  • Demonstrated ability in one or more dance disciplines (Acro, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, or Creative Movement) through a practical assessment.
  • Experience working with, and/or a desire to work with, children and youth in a recreational setting.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification from an accredited organization, or the ability to obtain certification within one month of hire.
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or Sport Certification is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.

Expectations of Staff

  • A Vulnerable Sector Check issued by a local police service within the last six (6) months. The check must indicate it is for employment purposes.
  • Knowledge of various dance disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Brock Sports and Recreation policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work days and/or evenings, weekdays and weekends, as required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly, responsible, service-oriented attitude.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Interest in and willingness to learn new technical skills and develop professional soft skills.
  • Ability to solve problems effectively and adapt to the changing needs of youth programs.
  • Maintain up-to-date certifications and attend required staff meetings.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
