Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines.

• Interprets policy terms and conditions and determines if coverage applies to claims submitted, escalating issues as needed.

• Sets activities, reserves and authorizes payments within scope of authority. Ensures issuance of disbursements while managing expenses.

• Coordinates and performs investigations and evaluates claims and suits through contact with insureds, claimants, business partners, witnesses and experts. Seeks early resolution opportunities. Identifies files that have potential fraud and refers to SIU.

• Assignment of Independent adjusters/surveyors and attorneys in accordance with established guidelines.

•Utilizes negotiation skills to develop complex settlement packages.

•Identifies claims with third party recovery potential and coordinates with subrogation unit.

•Partners with attorneys, account representatives, agents, underwriters, and insureds to develop a focused strategy for timely and costeffective resolution of more complex claims.

•Responsible for input of data that accurately reflects claim circumstances and other information important to our business outcomes.

•Keeps current on provincial/federal regulations and issues as well as industry activity and trends.

•Makes recommendations on claim policy and processes to further enhance the claim department.

•Reacts to change productively and handling other essential tasks and projects as assigned.

•May be responsible for special projects and presentations.

•May provide assistance to other claims staff.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

•Technical and business management acumen, investigation and claims resolution skills, knowledge of insurance and claims principles, practices and procedures.

•Excellent analytical and problem- solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and teams.

•Ability to solve issues with a sense of urgency; utilizes and manages all available resources to make informed decisions and

achieve superior total claim outcome.

•Ability to effectively manage through challenging business problems and take appropriate levels of risks.

•Strong knowledge of industry trends, issues, Canadian and US laws and regulations.

•Customer service focused.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

•Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, work under pressure and handle high volumes of work.

•Comfortable working in a paperless and technologically based environment.

•Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.

•Bilingual (English and French) is an asset.

Education & Experience

•CIP or working towards completion of same.

•University or College degree or equivalent business experience of at least 7 years commercial property/casualty claims experience

•Typically, minimum of 5 to 7 years of Transportation Liability claim experience with a proven track record of results.

AMF Certification is an asset but not a requirement.

The base salary range for this position is $78,000 to $110,000, complemented by a comprehensive and competitive benefits package to help our employees – and their family members – achieve their physical, financial, emotional, and social wellbeing goals. Base salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
