Health PEI has an opening for a Nurse Manager . This is a permanent, full-time position located at Western Hospital, Alberton Prince Edward Island .
The candidate will be responsible for :
Manages and oversees the medical inpatient and palliative care beds as well as the Emergency Department at Western Hospital.
Provides leadership and support to the Clinical Leads for these units.
- Ensures that all principles and established Standards of Nursing Practice are consistent with the goals and the strategic plan for Community Hospitals West and Health PEI.
- Provides onsite daily support to the nursing staff and manages staff meetings regularly.
- Planning and implementing effective and efficient delivery of patient and family focused nursing care.
- Responsible for long range strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing services.
- Identifies and develops nursing policies and procedures according to evidence-based practice and in collaboration with the Community Hospitals West Nursing Policy and Procedure Committee.
- Fosters professional development and ensures that all nursing staff work within their scope of practice.
- Develops and implements quality improvement initiatives.
- Participates in the recruitment and retention of staff by actively supporting, accommodating and mentoring students.
- Prepares quarterly and annual reports for the Director of Nursing and / or Administrator as required.
- Provides leadership to a number of committees relevant to Medical / Palliative Care and Emergency Department teams.
- Takes leadership role in; monitoring safety in the workplace, monitoring medical equipment and the use of the equipment, and implementing corrective strategies where staff / patient safety is at risk.
- Determining staffing needs, participating in the staffing process, performing performance appraisals, and maintaining regular staffing rotations.
- Communicates and collaborates with other on-site managers to ensure the provision of quality care for patients.
- Works collaboratively with Human resources and the Director of Nursing to address and resolve performance and other HR related issues as they arise.
- Managers Assume after hours calls with the Director of Nursing; and other related duties.
The successful candidate for this position should have :
- Must possess a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and extensive progressive and successful clinical experience.
- Must have current registration with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in acute care nursing.
- Knowledge of professional practice and evidence-based care.
- Experience in planning and policy development as well as financial and human resource management.
- Program planning, development and evaluation skills.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated decision making, analytical, leadership, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- A good previous work and attendance record.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing would be considered an asset.
- Experience in the role would be considered an asset.
- Supervisory / Management / Leadership experience is preferred.
- Experience in Medical / palliative care is an asset.
- Experience in Emergency Department care is an asset.
Salary and Hours :
- Salary Range : $45.09 - $55.46 per hour (Level 20N - Excluded)
- Hours : 75.0 hours Bi-weekly / Monday to Friday 8 a.m. 4 p.m. / On Call / Some Evening and Weekend Work May Be Required.
