About This Opportunity

The Digby and Area Health Services Centre, located beside Digby General Hospital (DGH), is seeking physicians to join their team which consists of two physicians, four Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurse and Licenced Practical Nurse.

Physicians participate in an on-call rota and inpatient care. They also have access to procedure rooms for minor lumps & bumps and have the option to provide Emergency Department coverage at DGH.

All team members work collaboratively to provide patient care and hold regular team meetings. This is a turn-key clinic operated by Nova Scotia Health Authority.

Physicians complete their billings on their own or hire billing support.

Digby General Hospital, historically founded in 1924, provides medical care to residents of the surrounding areas including primary, inpatient, restorative, and ambulatory care as well as day surgery.

Located in Digby, the 20-bed medical and alternate level of care (ALC) unit works closely with the collaborative emergency centre (CEC) in Annapolis Royal and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

DGH also has a 13-bed restorative care unit that supports patients through rehabilitation.

• cardiac respiratory services
• continuing care
• diagnostic imaging
• emergency medicine
• laboratory services
• medical unit
• mental health and addiction services
• palliative care
• physiotherapy
• public health services
• occupational therapy
• nutrition and diabetes counseling
• speech therapy
• telehealth room services

Responsibilities

• ensure the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness
• be accountable for appropriate workload and practice
• continuum of patient care with health care providers within your practice and / or community
• provide care and coordination of community-based care, secondary and tertiary level heath care
• build to capacity within the first two years (new primary care providers)
• operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority
• work toward same day or next day access for the practice population
• work in collaboration with other team members in the practice to best suit the community’s health needs
• work with other providers to provide after-hours access when required and emergency opportunities if interested
• participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
• utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) and record all relevant patient details in a provincially approved EMR which is accessible to all collaborating team members

Qualifications

• all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
• all family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
• membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
