The Opportunity :

Our client, a leading and well-established provider of animal healthcare services, is seeking a Director of Operations to join their large Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Toronto.

The Director of Operations will oversee the daily operations of a multi-veterinarian, 24-hour emergency, specialty, and referral hospital.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in developing effective management systems, fostering a dynamic team culture, driving results, and managing ongoing operations.

This role involves hands-on supervision of a team of over 100 individuals working in 24-hour shifts. The Director of Operations is expected to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.

What You'll Be Doing :

  • Proven experience leading a large team in a proactive and professional manner, demonstrating strong leadership and the ability to motivate and manage a diverse group of employees.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in all aspects of the business, with the capability to identify issues, analyze situations, and implement effective solutions promptly.
  • Strategic financial planning experience with the ability to read and interpret financial documents, ensuring the hospital's financial health and guiding long-term growth.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear and effective interaction with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple assignments under tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
  • Develop yearly budget and business plans in collaboration with the leadership team and Regional Director, aligning financial goals with hospital objectives.
  • Ensure outstanding financial results and maximize short- and long-term objectives by actively monitoring expenses, revenues, and financial performance.
  • Build and maintain relationships within a large team of client services, medical support staff, and veterinarians, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Drive a culture of excellence focused on delivering gold standard client service, cultivating high morale, and generating revenue through effective team management and customer satisfaction.
  • Create training plans for clinic staff, providing regular coaching, performance evaluations, and continuing education opportunities to ensure exceptional medical and client care, as well as professional growth.

What You'll Need To Be Successful :

  • At least 7 years of experience in multi-unit leadership and operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field.
  • Extensive experience in managing large-scale, multi-department or multi-unit operations.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated success in leading high-performing teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing strategic plans for hospital operations.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with a diverse employee population and multiple stakeholders.
  • Exceptional client-facing abilities : adept at building trust, skilled in negotiation and dispute resolution, and committed to delivering outstanding service to clients.
  • Strong proficiency in financial analysis, KPIs, and budgeting.
  • CVPM designation is a plus.
