To join their team in Toronto, we are searching for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to take responsibility for corporate, compliance, and contractual matters for organisation's division in Canada.
The role and responsibilities :
As part of the Legal Counsel team, you will take on key responsibility for all legal matters (such as procurement, claims, disputes, and corporate issues) across Canada and the United States.
You will ensure adherence to relevant processes, policies, contracts, directives, and legal requirements, and provide expert guidance to enhance commercial and legal processes. ️
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of contracts and legal agreements.
- Providing comprehensive legal support on contractual matters, including managing claims and resolving disputes.
- Collaborating with the business to establish clear terms and conditions, ensuring risk transparency and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies as required.
- Managing corporate governance and legal compliance across the organisation.
- Ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations in partnership with the global compliance team.
- Overseeing the engagement of external legal counsel when necessary.
- Delivering legal training to internal teams, enhancing their understanding of legal and contractual processes.
Your Profile :
- A law degree, with a specialisation in contract or business law.
- Qualified to practise law in Canada ; additional legal experience in the United States is advantageous.
- Fluency in English is essential. Other languages, particularly Portuguese, is beneficial. ️
- A minimum of 3 years of in-house legal experience, ideally within an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Entrepreneurial approach with the ability to operate across multiple jurisdictions.
- Solid understanding of business and economic principles.
