About the Company
Area One Farms is a mission-driven private equity firm that invests in the growth of top-performing Canadian farms to help them expand their farms and associated businesses.
Area One does direct investments with farmers in Canada and this analyst would support both our investment team and farm operators.
We are currently hiring an Analyst for our team in Toronto. The position is an entry level hire for someone with 0-2 years experience.
About the Position
You will work with the Executive and Principals on a small team to :
- Build financial models, memos, and presentations to assist in investment evaluation, structuring and financing;
- Work closely with Finance and Investment teams of the firm to assess opportunities and coordinate deal closings;
- Understand the strategy for each farm that Area One partners with;
- Budgeting and forecasting (including annual budgets & budget v. actuals, capital budgeting, forecasts for debt financing purposes);
- Develop relationships with management teams of investee farms and work with the farmer and Area One’s finance department to :
- Financial analysis (KPI calculations including IRR, trend analysis, management accounting process improvements etc.)
- Analyze potential investment opportunities for farms;
- Work with the farmer to develop additional opportunities;
- Share ideas between farmers, when they are applicable.
- Conduct research and due diligence including business plan evaluation, legal, financial, and technical due diligence in collaboration with advisors;
- Perform company and industry research;
- Participate in management calls, company meetings and industry conferences; and
- Help monitor portfolio company performance and prepare quarterly and annual internal and external reporting documents.
Our Ideal Candidate Profile
- 0-2 years exposure to business either through a professional service (accounting, law, consulting) or operations at a corporation;
- Undergraduate degree required;
- Accounting, Finance, or Economics major;
- CPA and or CFA or other valuation training would be an asset;
- Applies strong business judgment to project transactions to advance the business interests of the firm;
- Have excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills to successfully manage deal teams and operations in Ag across Canada;
- Have a meticulous eye for detail;
- Is a self-starter who is resourceful, forward thinking, and has a problem solving mentality;
- Have the ability to work with large data sets;
- Adept at Microsoft Excel and has a experience with financial modelling;
- Excellent presentation skills with experience delivering high quality memos and communication;
- Have a track record of academic achievement and professional advancement;
- Desire to live in Toronto and willingness to travel; and
- A knowledge of farming is a benefit, but not required.
