Job Description

The Accounting Policy team is accountable for developing, implementing, and maintaining accounting policies for CPP Investments.

The team interprets and applies accounting standards, acts as internal advisors to other departments by providing accounting guidance on complex transactions, and works with other departments to ensure accurate and consistent financial reporting.

Reporting to the Director, Accounting Policy, Financial Policy and Reporting, the Manager, Accounting Policy will be responsible for providing accounting policy advice to departments across CPP Investments.

This individual will be responsible for researching and providing guidance on the accounting treatment for investments and entity structures, drafting internal accounting guidance, as well as contributing to enterprise projects with accounting implications.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished chartered professional accountant who has experience in accounting policy development and application, in addition to strong communication skills enabling them to effectively influence key stakeholders in many other parts of the organization.

They must possess a strong acumen for accounting advisory and demonstrate a commercial mindset and a pragmatic approach in their decision-making and communication approach.

They will have significant depth in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), with a specific focus on IFRS 9 and IFRS 10.

The Manager will be accountable for :

  • Advising teams on the accounting treatments and control assessments of investments;
  • Maintenance of controls over accounting policy development and implementation across CPP Investments;
  • Supporting quarterly financial reporting of CPP Investments as a subject matter expert;
  • Keeping abreast of new accounting pronouncements and analyzing their impact on the organization; and
  • Contributing to team and departmental objectives that are aligned with our long-term strategy.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a finance, assurance or advisory role involving accounting standard interpretation and application;
  • A track record of working collaboratively with multiple departments to identify and solve accounting issues and a demonstrated ability to influence at all levels in an organization;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with experience presenting to various levels and writing reports for senior executives;
  • Strong operational and team leadership in a complex, global organization;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands from stakeholders in an information-intensive environment;
  • A continuous learning mindset;
  • Display a commercial approach in their decision-making and is solution-oriented in the face of obstacles;
  • A professional accounting designation from a globally reputed professional body;
  • Highly collaborative and enjoys being a part of a culture of excellence, is flexible and constantly strives to innovate; and
  • Exemplifies CPP Investments guiding principles of integrity, partnership, and high performance.
