Do you have the ambition, enthusiasm, and technical capability to work with us as an Environmental Planner in Environmental and Impact Assessment? Our highly respected and successful Environmental Permitting and Management team has an ever-growing portfolio of work, built on technical excellence and exceptional service to our clients, with a particular need for support on our infrastructure, power, and renewables projects. As a result, we are seeking like-minded and experienced Consultants with considerable technical expertise in Environmental Assessment / Impact Assessment to join our growing teams in Ontario.

Our work includes delivering keystone projects throughout their lifecycle : from early assessment of constraints to strategic development of regulatory approvals processes, to compliance management through construction and operations. Our team works collaboratively within projects to gain social acceptance and manage our clients' commitments to the environment and sustainable development.

This role will be based in Toronto, ON.

Your role within the team :

  • Coordinate and guide efforts to obtain environmental approvals / permits for projects from government and regulatory agencies (all jurisdictions).
  • Lead, implement and manage environmental regulatory planning, EA / IA across Canada.
  • Independently conduct, coordinate, and manage external subcontractors, where required, to complete regulatory planning, EA / IA and supportive technical studies and documentation (e.g., noise, air, natural and cultural heritage, visual, land use etc.) for projects.
  • Liaise and communicate with regulatory agencies, and authorities having jurisdiction to address project issues and obtain agreement in principle.
  • Manage the development and implementation of consultation and engagement programs, directed at municipal, federal, and provincial regulatory agencies, and Indigenous peoples, including providing strategic oversight to ensure effective engagement.
  • Collaborate with technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments.
  • Effectively delegate tasks and activities to intermediate and junior staff and providing technical and supervisory guidance on assigned tasks.
  • Interact with clients on technical tasks as Project Manager, Environmental Lead or Consultation Lead.
  • Develop, prepare, and maintain project / task schedules and budgets for the environmental component of projects, including monitoring project progress, work hours, budgets and expenditures using project scheduling and cost control tools.
  • Assist with and, as necessary, taking a lead role in the development of proposals, qualification documents and other business development related activities.
  • Help the wider team to grow environmental market share in strategic markets.
  • Leverage existing industry / client relationships and establish and foster new client relationships.

Because we offer :

  • The opportunity to work on various major projects for internal and external clients.
  • An exciting environment where work-life balance is important.
  • A wide array of learning and development opportunities.
  • Competitive pay, flexible benefits, an employee share plan, and a defined contribution pension plan.
  • A work environment focused on health and safety.
  • The ideal candidate :

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, Environmental Impact Assessment, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies (or similar).
  • 10+ years of related experience in managing and coordinating Environmental programs, EA / IA, and environmental regulatory planning.
  • Familiarity and demonstrated experience with the provincial, federal, and territorial EA / IA processes in a variety of jurisdictions, with in-depth understanding of regulatory environment in Ontario is required.
  • Knowledge of other relevant environmental legislation and policy.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating environmental permitting and approvals in Ontario.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior and intermediate staff.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritize workload to manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), as well as an aptitude for client liaison.
  • Knowledge of and experience with project management fundamentals including cost control, scope management and scheduling.
  • Full or Provisional membership in a professional body such Registered Professional Planner (RPP and MCIP), Canadian Environmental Professional (EP); or Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • ISO14001 Environmental Management auditing accreditation would be an asset.
