This position lays a crucial role in building brand and advancing culture through communications and engagement. You will lead corporate communications, issue management and member engagement strategy, collaborate with and support marketing team and other areas of the company. This position also provides support to Board of Directors and Executive team.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement exceptional communications plans and programs in support of corporate initiatives.
- Assist in the development of Calgary Co-op’s corporate content, social media and earned media strategy.
- Manage issue and incident communications and serve as a company spokesperson in the event the Communications Director is not available.
- Translate a deep understanding of the issues and opportunities affecting our organization into action plans and key messages.
- Oversee the Member Engagement Specialists including providing guidance on managing member opportunities, tracking themes, and emerging issues to address with the business for the development of solutions to be implemented with members and at store level where appropriate.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback for the Member Engagement Specialists, ensuring they have opportunities to further develop their skills and abilities.
- Foster and maintain mutually beneficial relationships within the MMX team and across the organization including Executive Leadership team, Board of Directors, Managing Directors, media, community groups and others.
- Perform or assist with the yearly performance work plan and development action plan.
- Provide leadership in the areas of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) including participate in OH&S activities, ensuring employees are knowledgeable about and comply with OH&S policies, procedures, and legislation, assist in identifying unhealthy, unsafe situations and ensure corrective action is taken.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A degree, diploma or certificate in communications, public relations or related discipline
- Five to seven years’ strategic communications experience
- Three to five years of supervisory experience
- Three to five years’ experience working with the media and acting as a company spokesperson
- Experience managing multi-faceted communications projects with multiple stakeholders
- Experience in crisis & issues management and supporting board/executives.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience developing and implementing integrated communications plans
- Strong writer and editor in various mediums/channels
- Experience with a variety of social media platforms including social media monitoring and responding
- Must have access to a vehicle and have a clean driving record
Desirable Qualifications:
- Retail and/or co-operative experience or experience in a member-driven organization
- Keen interest in community engagement and/or community investment
- Understanding of municipal and provincial government relations
- Understanding of the co-operative movement and associated principles
