Job Title: Forklift Operator

Job Description

This role focuses on safely and efficiently loading and unloading trailers in a busy cross-dock facility while accurately handling freight and related paperwork. You will operate a sit-down forklift, use a handheld scanner, and support shipping and receiving activities to keep freight moving smoothly through the terminal.

Responsibilities

• Load outbound trailers accurately, ensuring freight is placed securely and in the correct order.
• Unload inbound trailers, including hand-bombing loose boxes when required.
• Load city trailers in sequence and with correct freight counts to support timely deliveries.
• Unload city trailers, confirm freight counts, cube all freight, and place freight in the proper location.
• Use a handheld scanner to track and manage freight movements and maintain accurate records.
• Follow directions provided by dispatchers and dock leadership to prioritize tasks and maintain workflow.
• Support cross-dock operations by assisting with LTL freight handling and general dock activities.
• Empty garbage and maintain a clean, safe work area at the end of each shift.
• Complete a pre-trip inspection of your forklift before each use and report any issues promptly.
• Assist with freight paperwork, as needed, to ensure accurate documentation of shipments.
• Work collaboratively with the dock and office teams to organize daily operations and set the team up for success.
• Provide hands-on support on the dock, including forklift operation and manual handling of freight when required.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience operating a sit-down forklift, with at least 2+ years of recent forklift operation.
• Valid forklift certification, including AB certification.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience working on a dock in shipping and receiving, including loading and unloading trailers.
• Demonstrated experience in a cross-dock environment and handling LTL freight.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Experience working with trailers in a shipping and receiving setting.
• Ability to use a handheld scanner to track freight and update records.
• Basic knowledge of freight paperwork and documentation.
• Previous experience in a transportation or logistics company.
• Ability to follow direction from dispatchers and dock leadership and adapt to changing priorities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of CALGARY, AB.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
