Job description

Technical Support Agent (30 positions) for provincial government agency client, Scarborough and North York contact centres.

Marberg Job Number :  2445.

Job Type : Temporary.

Initial Term : February 1 2025 to July 31 2025

Compensation :  $29.94 per hour

Regular Work Hours : 7.25 hours per day not including 1 hour unpaid lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (36.25 work hours per week), with occasional, additional paid hours as needed.

Work Locations : 100% onsite at either client's Scarborough or North York locations, as needed, both with free parking provided. You must be flexible to work out of either location according to business requirements.

Ergonomic Requirements :  In addition to regular desk work, the position will occasionally require the ability to safely lift up to 45 lbs., as well as bending, crouching, overhead lifting, extended standing, walking across floors and between buildings, and other ergonomic activities associated with setting up workstations and equipment.

Onsite Dress Code : Business Casual or according to client business requirements.

Position Reports To : Manager, Field IT

Responsibilities Summary :

In a Technical Support Contact Centre environment, will provide technical support services to head and field staff offices, including system configuration, and troubleshooting both hardware and software issues.

With an emphasis on telephone based technical support, will :

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose software and hardware related issues on a day-to-day basis.
  • Communicate with specific internal teams and technical support staff to resolve technical issues encountered in day-to-day work.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance and installation of network systems including all hardware, cabling, and telecommunications.
  • Perform testing and evaluation of current and future software applications, as assigned. Test new software and hardware for compatibility with current standards and equipment.
  • Provide updates and reports to supervisor and internal team members on the status of work, providing basic information on the production of configuration benchwork. Answer basic questions and document configuration benchwork progress. Escalate issues / problems to appropriate resource with level of urgency, if unable to resolve.
  • Additional system configuration and troubleshooting, hardware and software support, and inventory administration responsibilities as required.

Qualifications :

Education : Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in computer engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Work Experience :  At least 3+ years of progressive experience in technical support, computer system configuration support and troubleshooting, both for hardware and software.

Technical Skills Requirements :

  • Sound knowledge of all Microsoft software products (may be tested).
  • Sound knowledge of imaging software, PC desktop and laptop / computer hardware, network cabling and telecommunications applications to perform hardware / software installation and maintenance duties.
  • Language and Customer Service Skills Requirements :

  • Must have excellent English language technical support phone skills, including superior verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with Field IT team, co-workers, and wide range of internal and external clients in performing duties. Proven patience, empathy and de-escalation skills.
  • Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes :

  • Punctual, responsible, and reliable. Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character.
  • Knowledge of installation techniques and methods for hardware and software, including operating systems, non-standard software and hardware and emerging technology to perform installation services and troubleshoot problems with computer hardware, software, peripherals and PDAs.
  • Knowledge and awareness of new trends and technologies in the systems industry to test new products for compatibility with current standards.
  • High attention to detail; proven track record of delivering quality work based on precision workmanship.
  • Focused and able to work effectively with minimal direction, and work to volume and due dates. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Additional Requirements :

  • Ability to safely lift 45 lbs. and meet the additional ergonomic requirements of the job.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities.
  • Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
