We are seeking a highly accomplished and hands-on Java / Python Full Stack Developer for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will operate as a technical leader within a highly regulated, large-scale banking environment, driving the development, maintenance, and optimization of critical financial applications.

As a versatile full-stack engineer, you will balance your expertise between expanding modern Java middle-office platforms and supporting, enhancing, and fixing existing Python-based applications. This position requires an engineering professional who can collaborate smoothly with business stakeholders, maintain impeccable code quality, and deliver exceptionally stable and scalable technical solutions.

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - 3 days/week in-office)

Responsibilities
Application Development: Lead the end-to-end design, core development, and continuous enhancement of Java-based architectures while simultaneously supporting, upgrading, and fixing existing Python applications.

Stakeholder Partnership: Partner closely with operational front/middle office, risk, finance, and compliance groups to translate intricate financial requirements into stable technical designs.

Architecture & Quality Ownership: Take full ownership of system architecture patterns, technical designs, and code cleanliness across the entire application stack.

Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead code reviews, mentor developers, and provide clear technical guidance to both onshore and offshore engineering streams.

System Resilience & Performance: Ensure high system availability, perform advanced multithreading adjustments, oversee JVM memory management, and execute performance tuning in a demanding environment.

Governance & Standards Compliance: Drive enterprise technology standards, best practices, and strict SDLC adherence aligned with corporate controls, regulatory initiatives, and risk remediation.

DevOps & Integration: Collaborate with DevOps, QA, and Infrastructure teams to streamline CI/CD automation pipelines, deployment releases, and environment configuration management.

Incident Management: Participate actively in high-tier incident management, executing root-cause analysis and driving continuous platform improvements.

Qualifications
Technical Requirements
Core Java Mastery: Strong hands-on engineering experience using Core Java (Java 8+) inside enterprise environments.

Frameworks & Microservices: Deep experience building scalable systems using Spring, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and modern microservices architecture.

Advanced Runtimes: Exceptional understanding of multithreading, concurrency, memory management, and JVM performance tuning.

Python Capabilities: Practical knowledge of Python development with a proven ability to debug, maintain, and enhance existing codebase modules.

Data & Messaging Systems: Strong SQL skills working with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL) alongside hands-on exposure to event-driven messaging (Kafka, MQ, JMS).

DevOps Tools & Infrastructure: Solid familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Maven/Gradle, and Linux/Unix environments. Cloud exposure (AWS/Azure) is highly preferred.

Capital Markets Domain Experience
Middle Office Operations: Proven experience working inside Middle Office Technology systems within Investment Banking or Capital Markets.

Trade Lifecycle Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of post-trade processing, enrichment, confirmations, settlements, reconciliations, and Risk/P&L reporting.

Asset Class Exposure: Familiarity with one or more core asset classes, including Equities, Fixed Income, FX, or Derivatives.

Leadership & Professional Skills
Team Direction: Demonstrated experience leading development teams within a large corporate banking environment.

Communication: Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with a track record of successfully engaging senior business and technology stakeholders.

Problem-Solving: Highly developed analytical mindset, a strong sense of technical ownership, and exceptional attention to detail.
