Through collaboration, continuous improvement, and a commitment to service excellence, Financial Services helps advance SFU's academic and operational priorities while fostering accountability, innovation, and informed financial management.

About the Role

The Financial Analyst provides professional financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, and budget planning support within SFU's Capital Finance team. Working closely with faculty, administrative partners, and project stakeholders, this role supports the financial planning and reporting of the University's capital initiatives by analyzing financial data, preparing reports and forecasts, developing costing models, and providing guidance on financial policies and procedures. The position also contributes to financial statement preparation, regulatory reporting, year-end processes, and continuous improvements to financial reporting and business processes. This is an excellent opportunity for an analytical finance professional who enjoys collaborating with stakeholders, solving complex financial challenges, and supporting the successful delivery of the University's capital program.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative finance professional with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities who thrives in a complex, service-oriented environment. They are interested in supporting capital planning and infrastructure projects through sound financial analysis and reporting. They demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to diverse stakeholders. Proactive, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities, they build strong working relationships across the University. A commitment to continuous improvement, customer service, and maintaining accuracy and confidentiality is essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, economics and accounting designation or related field and five years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Advanced financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and fiscal management skills.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide financial advice to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency using spreadsheet, database, and enterprise financial systems.
  • Ability to interpret financial information, identify risks, and develop practical recommendations.
