Job description
Job Description - Chemical Process Technician (KIN00Q8)Management Level:Individual Contributor:

About us
Worley is a global company of energy, chemicals and resources experts headquartered in Australia. We partner with our customers to deliver projects and create value across the life of their assets. We specialize in consulting, engineering, procurement and construction across the project lifecycle, with services extending through to operations and decommissioning. Leveraging extensive experience and AI-enabled delivery, we support customers in navigating complexity as they meet today's needs and transition to more sustainable solutions.

Purpose:

We are currently recruiting for a Chemical Process Technician. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Kingston, Ontario.

We are looking for a Chemical Process Technician with a chemistry, chemical engineering technology, chemical processing, or related technical background and strong hands-on experience in chemical process development. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys building and operating equipment, executing experiments, troubleshooting process setups, and working directly in laboratory, pilot plant, and manufacturing environments. The position involves the development and piloting of novel chemical processes, supporting technology transfer through to commercialization, and potentially small-lot manufacturing at Qnity Electronics (formerly DuPont) Kingston Research Facility.

The ideal applicant will have demonstrated communication and prioritization skills, a strong safety mindset, and practical experience in one or more of the following areas: chemical process development, laboratory and small-scale pilot process design/build/operation, experimental execution, manufacturing operations, process troubleshooting, and scale-up from bench-scale concepts to larger pilot plant systems.

The ideal applicant will bring a practical, hands-on technical foundation aligned with skills developed through Chemical Engineering Technician, Chemical Engineering Technology, Chemical Processing, Chemical Laboratory Technology, or related college programs. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with tools, equipment, instrumentation, process documentation, and digital systems used to plan, execute, record, and communicate technical work. As project work evolves, flexibility will be required, including willingness to take on different assignments and adapt work schedules when needed; short periods of shiftwork may be required.

Responsibilities:

This individual will:

  • Work within a multi-disciplined team, focused on technology research and development aimed at creating opportunities for business growth and renewal.
  • Participate in the various stages of technology research and development, from concept through to commercialization.
  • Work in an environment that is continuously improving and evolving to meet the changing needs of our customers.

What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Starting to mid-career professional, co-op, or applied academic experience in hands-on chemical process development, chemical processing, laboratory operations, pilot plant operation, or manufacturing support.
  • Experience assembling, modifying, troubleshooting, and operating lab-scale and/or pilot-scale chemical process equipment, including pumps, mixers, reactors, vessels, instrumentation, tubing, fittings, and supporting utilities.
  • Experience safely executing experiments or operating processes in a laboratory, pilot plant, or manufacturing environment, including setup preparation, material handling, data collection, housekeeping, and equipment cleanout.
  • Demonstrated hands-on aptitude and mechanical curiosity, including the ability to build small laboratory-scale setups, make practical equipment modifications, and help assemble larger pilot-scale systems.
  • Experience supporting lab-to-pilot scale-up, including transferring experimental methods into repeatable operating procedures and identifying practical equipment, safety, and process-control considerations.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical equipment, process chemistry, production operations, instrumentation, control systems, and process safety procedures.
  • Familiarity with P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment lists, batch records, operating instructions, commissioning or checkout documentation, and Process Hazard Analysis.
  • Strong analytical, technical, data organization, and computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and digital tools used to follow procedures, capture experimental data, track process conditions, and communicate results.
  • Experience using digital systems such as electronic lab notebooks, manufacturing execution systems, historian/trending tools, data acquisition systems, LIMS, digital batch records, or Excel-based trackers would be an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports, operating instructions, and author or revise procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively on multi-disciplinary teams and independently, including with equipment suppliers and contractors when required.
  • Experience in simulation tools or advanced statistical tools such as Minitab or JMP, including DOE or multivariate analysis, would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with ISO quality assurance systems and documentation would be an asset.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • College diploma or advanced diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technician, Chemical Processing, Chemical Laboratory Technology, Chemical Laboratory Technician, Materials Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline with strong hands-on laboratory, process operations, process control, quality, instrumentation, and safety training.
