GENERAL LABOURER

Position Summary:

The General Labourer will be responsible for material handling, such as moving raw materials, parts, and finished goods across the plant manually or with basic equipment such as a pallet jack. The role also includes production support by assisting machine operators and assemblers by feeding materials, sorting components, and packaging finished products.


This role requires strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and strict adherence to quality and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Setup and Operation:

  • Set up and calibrate machinery (speed, feed, temperature) according to work orders and specifications.
  • Load, measure, and feed raw materials or components into production equipment.
  • Operate semi-automated and manual machinery, including the use of power tools.
  • Monitor machines during operation to ensure smooth and efficient production.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished products for bonding integrity, alignment, and defects.
  • Production Support: Read work orders, gather materials, and meet daily production targets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Report quality issues or equipment concerns and suggest process improvements.
  • Health & Safety: Follow all workplace safety procedures and participate in safety initiatives.

Single Beller:

  • Heating pipe in glycol.
  • Applying gaskets to pipes ranging from 4” to 6”.
  • Sawing.
  • Repetitive process, requiring strong attention to detail.

Hubbing:

  • Heating pipe in glycol.
  • Forming pipes to size, ranging from 8” to 24”.
  • Sawing.
  • Repetitive process, requiring strong attention to detail.

Pulling:

  • Heating PVC pipe.
  • Pull the right size branches.
  • Fittings range from 4” to 24”.
  • Training will be during the day shift, for the first 3 months of employment, 7:30am to 4pm.
  • When training has been successfully completed and the employee is certified, the shift will transition to Monday to Thursday, from 4:30pm to 4am..
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished products for integrity, alignment, and defects.
  • Production Support: Read work orders, gather materials, and meet daily production targets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Report quality issues or equipment concerns and suggest process improvements.
  • Health & Safety: Follow all workplace safety procedures and participate in safety initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Previous manufacturing or assembly experience is an asset but not required.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Ability to read a tape measure.
    • Basic math and numerical skills.
    • Familiarity with hand, pneumatic, and electric tools.
    • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Effective communication and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials weighing up to 22.6 kg / 50 lbs.
  • Repetitive tasks requiring prolonged periods of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and other physical movements as required.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and chemicals.
  • Occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in a range of environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and humidity, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to safely work in confined and restricted spaces, as required.
  • Ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to safely navigate platforms and uneven surfaces as required.

Work Schedule:

  • Shifts are on a rotating, variable basis.
  • Regular Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4pm.
  • Alternate Shift 1 (as needed): Monday to Thursday, 4:30pm– 4am.
  • Alternate Shift 2 (as needed): Saturday, 7:30am to 12pm (noon).
  • Occasional statutory holiday work may be required.

Candidates must be available to work the scheduled shifts listed above on a consistent and ongoing basis. Please note that this position does not offer flexibility regarding shift selection, scheduling preferences, or alternative shift arrangements.


Health & Safety Requirements:

  • Must be in good health.
  • Must wear CSA-approved steel-toe boots.
  • Follow all PPE and gowning procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with company health and safety policies.

Compensation:

  • Rate of pay: $21 to $24 per hour.

Benefits:

  • Eligible upon the successful completion of the probationary period.
  • RRSP company matching eligible upon the successful completion of the probationary period.
