Job description

Shift: Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm

Weekend rotation every third week.

We are seeking an Operating Engineer to join our team and ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our warehouse refrigeration systems. This role requires a hands-on professional with strong technical expertise, including direct experience with ammonia refrigeration systems, and a commitment to health and safety in every aspect of the job.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and promote a culture where Health & Safety is the #1 priority, supporting department initiatives.

  • Perform daily checks on refrigeration equipment and make necessary repairs or adjustments.

  • Conduct regular warehouse tours to confirm safety standards and support operations.

  • Follow preventative maintenance programs to minimize disruptions.

  • Monitor and adjust equipment to optimize utility costs.

  • Respond to refrigeration system alarm calls outside of business hours.

  • Enforce company standards on safety, contamination control, and housekeeping to reduce risk of injury, downtime, and product damage.

  • Operate within company policies, the Code of Business Conduct, and all applicable legislation.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

​KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a related role.

  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems is an asset.

  • Valid Power Engineer certification (4th or 3rd class) or Refrigeration Plant Operator 2nd class certification.

  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

  • Customer-focused with a drive for exceptional service delivery.

  • Flexible, adaptable, and embraces a continuous improvement mindset.

  • In-depth knowledge of provincial regulations: operating engineering, refrigeration, building/fire codes, environmental, labour, and health & safety.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Positive, professional, and team-oriented work style.

  • Ability to work in environments as cold as -20°C.
