Job description

PETRONAS Canada is one of the largest natural gas resource owners in Canada. We have operations in the Montney play in northeast British Columbia and are a partner in LNG Canada. As part of PETRONAS, a dynamic global energy group with presence in over 100 countries, we are well-positioned to provide global markets with responsibly-developed Canadian energy while supporting local jobs, collaborating with Indigenous communities and protecting the environment.

At PETRONAS Canada, we are committed to building Canada’s energy future – and people are fundamental to our success. We foster a culture of open collaboration and empowerment across our team of skilled professionals, while supporting career development opportunities. To support our growth plans, we are looking for can-do problem solvers to join our team who are innovative and passionate about driving strong safety, operational and sustainability performance in everything we do. Our unique culture and commitment to growth makes the company a great place to build your career.

THE ROLE :

Do you enjoy working a shift work schedule? Are you looking for an opportunity where you can pursue your passion of working in operations while being able to return home at the end of each day? If so, we have an exceptional opportunity for you within our Remote Operations Centre (ROC) located in Calgary!

Our dynamic team in the ROC is seeking a highly motivated professional who thrives in a collaborative and positive team environment. As the Operator, you will play a crucial role in providing remote expertise to the field operations execution team, ensuring the safe operation of wells, water assets, and compression. In this role, you will actively collaborate with cross functional team members in real-time to optimize production and minimize operational costs. You will carry out all daily activities within the framework of our safety-first approach.

This Calgary-based position operates on a 7 days on, 7 days off shift rotation with 12-hour shifts. The rotation alternates between days and nights. Some travel to our field operations is required.

This is a Safety Sensitive Position, and therefore you must be able to pass pre-employment and pre-access drug and alcohol screening and background checks.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE :

  • Take ownership of real-time monitoring and promptly dispatch appropriate responses to field alarms, while conducting thorough root cause evaluations and analyses
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting and pigging support, effectively manage both remote control operations and manual overrides
  • Collaborate with team members to determine and communicate daily operational activities, actively contribute to the 7-day planning cycle, and coordinate logistics for urgent and critical activities when needed
  • Be the primary point of contact for the Field Operations execution team; respond to queries, field support requirements, safety concerns, and production events
  • Create thorough work order requests using Maximo, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all documentation
  • Initiate effective action plans to resolve regulator inspection deficiencies identified by Operations and / or Regulators, including Technical Safety BC
  • Analyze, interpret, and validate PVR field data, This includes downtime coding, fuel flare venting, and fluid inventories
  • Build productive relationships and actively engage with internal stakeholders (Production Accounting, Engineering, Marketing, and HSSE) to analyze daily and weekly outputs in comparison to plans

WHAT YOU BRING :

  • 5 years of relevant experience, demonstrating progressive responsibilities in production operations, preferably within the Energy industry
  • Prior experience with remote operations is preferred
  • Competent knowledge of PVR, SCADA and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, PI Vision, and Teams)
  • Proficiency with Maximo and Power BI is considered a valuable asset
  • Possess current H2S, First Aid, WHMIS and TDG certificates, support will be provided to attain these requirements if needed
  • Model and promote safe behaviors in all work environments, adhering to health and safety regulations, corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities, and responding quickly to time-sensitive issues
  • Job postings are typically only open for applications for two weeks so please submit your resume today.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN OUR TEAM :

Flexible arrangement options including working from home and a compressed work week with Friday afternoons off (office-based roles)
