Job description

SUMMARY:

This position is similar in nature to an Educational Assistant role but with a broader scope of therapeutic and community-based responsibilities. The Support Worker will provide behavioral, academic, and social-emotional support to students in the classroom, in the community, and during evening/weekend programming. The role includes family support, recreational programming, and active participation in a multidisciplinary team approach.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build strong, caring relationships with students and families, acting as a consistent adult presence.
  • Support the implementation of individualized learning and therapeutic plans, co-developed with educators, clinicians, and cultural supports.
  • Reinforce educational and behavioral goals under the direction of teachers and clinicians.
  • Assist in the planning and supervision of land-based, project-based, and community-based learning activities.
  • Provide transportation to students and families for school, appointments, and community events.
  • Support students in developing life skills, social-emotional competencies, and cultural identity.
  • Collaborate with staff, school teams, and The Link to ensure continuity of care and reintegration planning.
  • Maintain documentation, behavior summaries, and communication logs.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Uphold confidentiality, boundaries, and trauma-informed practices in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with children and youth affected by trauma, behavioral challenges, or emotional needs.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous worldviews, cultural perspectives, and restorative practices.
  • Ability to support academic programming (5–12), including literacy and numeracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a relational and non-judgmental approach.
  • Knowledge of child development, inclusive education, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to support students with mobility or personal care needs, as required.
  • Experience working collaboratively in multi-agency or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle required.
  • Criminal record check, child and adult abuse registry checks, and prior contact checks with acceptable results (within the last 3 months).
  • First Aid/CPR, ASIST, and de-escalation training preferred or willingness to be trained.

SALARY RANGE: $16.50–$21.17/hour, depending on qualifications.

HOURS OF WORK: 80 hours bi-weekly, with a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
