Job description

Job Description

CIMA+’s Municipal & Transportation Design team have created a reputation for excellence within the transportation and infrastructure sectors by successfully delivering thousands of projects over the past 30 years. Our talented team of professionals can lead any type of project, regardless of its complexity and scale. The team draws on a reservoir of diverse experience that includes planning, design, inspection, construction management, and infrastructure reconstruction in both rural and urban environments. We take a wholistic approach to municipal transportation infrastructure projects that minimizes the environmental footprint, promotes sustainable growth, and supports resilient communities. Our innovative solutions integrate all modes of transportation, so motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists co-exist safely and travel efficiently. Join us and immerse yourself in a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative environment where you’ll make a real impact. Together, we’ll push boundaries and go above what’s expected of us to meet the challenges of tomorrow and engineer a better world!

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Civil Designer with advanced MicroStation and OpenRoads expertise to join our growing team. In this senior role, you will lead and deliver complex civil design and drafting activities for a wide range of municipal infrastructure projects, providing technical guidance and mentorship while ensuring high-quality, constructible design solutions.

This position offers a hybrid work model with flexible hours, including two days per week in our Mississauga, Downtown Toronto, Bowmanville or Markham (note, the CIMA+ Markham office will be open later this summer) office.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage civil design and drafting efforts for municipal infrastructure projects from concept through detailed design and construction support.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop coordinated, efficient, and technically sound design solutions.
  • Prepare, review, and oversee detailed civil drawings, site plans, and 3D models using MicroStation and InRoads, with AutoCAD and Revit as required.
  • Ensure all design deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, municipal guidelines, and project specifications, supporting quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Provide technical design support throughout the full project lifecycle, including planning, permitting, tendering, construction, and close-out phases.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and as-built drawings to confirm alignment with design intent and project requirements.
  • Identify and resolve design issues, constructability challenges, and coordination conflicts in a proactive manner.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical direction to junior designers and technologists, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in civil design for municipal infrastructure projects, with strong experience in water, wastewater, and linear infrastructure.
  • Expert-level proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads is required; experience with AutoCAD and Revit is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design efforts and translate complex engineering concepts into accurate, high-quality, and constructible drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal standards, industry codes, and best practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills with proven experience working in multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence

At CIMA+, we value diversity of talent and perspective. You think you can add value, but don't meet all the job requirements? We invite you to apply, because everyone has something unique to offer. The outstanding talents that choose to join us at CIMA+ soon realize that we go all out to encourage them to grow. We look forward to hearing how you can contribute to our success.

Why choose CIMA+? Because we offer you:

  • Comprehensive Group Benefits available from day one for all permanent employees working at least 20 hours per week
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program
  • Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with up to 4% employer contribution
  • As an employee-owned company, an annual opportunity to purchase shares for all eligible employees
  • Flexible work schedule in a hybrid work mode
  • Work/Life balance policy across Canada
  • 3-5 weeks of vacation, based on years of relevant experience
  • Tailored training to improve your existing skills
