Job Description
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform and record manufacturing activities consistent with those required to meet company objectives. Must be able to handle multiple concurrent tasks with fluctuating priorities. Sets up and operates CNC Milling or Turning machines to manufacture precision components. Capable of operating manual lathes and mills. Familiar with operations like drilling, tapping, threading, turning, reaming, boring, facing and other machining operations performed on C.N.C. equipment. Able to modify or edit existing programs.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Set up, operate, and run CNC Mills and/or CNC Turning Centers.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Understand and apply GD&T, tolerances, product features, and dimensional requirements.
- Perform machine setups including tooling, offsets, and fixture alignment.
- Notifies supervisor of shop and tooling requirements.
- Operates C.N.C machines as assigned and may be required to operate more than one machine simultaneously.
- Follows preventative maintenance procedures as outlined by machine manufacturers or supervisors.
- Required to assist in machine repair when needed.
- Keeps machine and work area safe, clean, lubricated and orderly.
- Keeps accurate time reporting on all activities
- Remains aware and follows all health and safety practices. Works in a safe fashion and reports any concerns to supervisor.
- Trains and assists other C.N.C set up Operators.
- Utilizes knowledge of working properties for a wide variety of materials such as aluminum, brass, cast iron, alloy steels, plastics, etc.
- Pre-sets tools and addresses tool off-sets prior to finishing cuts.
- Uses measuring instruments such as micrometres, vernier, calliper, CMM, etc. to verify conformance to specifications.
- Works to required tolerances and is responsible for quality of work produced.
- May be required to assist in machine repair.
- Required to make edits to programs.
- Report all opportunities for continuous improvement
- Utilizes knowledge of shop mathematics, charts and tables.
- Performs other duties as assigned utilizing normal skill and ability of the current position.
- Take part in training for new skills
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Education/Training: High school education plus 2 years technical training
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with CNC milling or turning operations
- Requires over 5 years of experience in related or subordinate work, plus 6 months on the job training
- Proficient in reading blueprints and understanding tolerances and dimensions
- Familiarity with G-code programming and CNC machine controls
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Experience with Mazak (Mill-Turn), Okuma, and Haas machines an asset.
- CNC programming experience (at the machine or offline) an asset.
- Experience in precision component manufacturing.
- Red Seal or equal experience
- Proficient on operating manual lathes and mills
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: MISSING
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
- Must have manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
- Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is considered only within the Stoney Creek location on a 2-shift operation in a manufacturing plant.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.

- Competitive starting wage with increases after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months.
