Job description

Note: This is a general talent pool posting to connect with experienced accounting and finance leaders for upcoming full-time, contract, remote, and hybrid Controller roles across various partner industries (including Accounting Services, Manufacturing, Tech, and SMBs).

Submitting your resume here places you into our active talent pool for current and future Controller opportunities across Western Canada.

We are seeking proactive, strategic, and detail-oriented financial leaders—from hands-on Controllers to FP&A-focused financial leaders—who can drive full-cycle accounting, ensure robust financial governance, and deliver actionable insights to executive leadership and business owners.

Whether you thrive as an individual contributor overseeing multi-entity/plant accounting or excel in managing teams and client portfolios, we want to hear from you.

Advantages
Work Models: Flexible arrangements ranging from Fully Remote (Western Canada) to Hybrid and On-site plant/corporate office settings.
Competitive Compensation: Typical salary bands range from $100,000 to $150,000+ per annum, depending on scope, location, and seniority.
Benefits: Extended medical, dental, and health coverage packages, paid vacation, and professional development support.

Responsibilities
Depending on the specific assignment and client/company needs, core responsibilities typically include:

Full-Cycle Accounting & Financial Close: Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, general ledger management, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Financial Reporting & Governance: Produce accurate financial statements, board/investor packages, and variance reports in compliance with Canadian accounting standards.
FP&A & Strategic Planning: Build and manage financial models, annual operational budgets, rolling cash flow forecasts, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Tax & Compliance Management: Oversee tax remittances, GST/PST compliance, payroll filings, internal controls, and lead external audit preparation.
Process Improvement & Systems: Implement and optimize cloud-based accounting workflows, internal controls, and ERP/financial software solutions.
Team Supervision or Cross-Functional Leadership: Direct, mentor, and review work from junior accountants or partner cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, Procurement, and Executive leadership.

Qualifications
Designation: Active Canadian CPA (CPA, CA / CPA, CGA / CPA, CMA) required.
Experience: 5 to 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience (e.g., Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or Controller).

Industry Backgrounds Sought:
Small-to-Medium Businesses (SMBs) & Fractional/Multi-client environments.
Manufacturing, Plant Accounting, Operations, or Multi-entity organizations.
Fast-growth, cloud-based accounting & advisory environments.

Technical Software Skills:
Advanced Excel (data analysis, financial modeling, pivot tables, complex formulas).
ERP & Accounting Platforms: Sage (Sage 50, Sage 100), QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Workiva, FloQast, Concur, or similar cloud tools.

Key Attributes:
Self-starter with high analytical rigor, accuracy, and sound judgment.
Adaptable, tech-savvy communicator capable of explaining financial data clearly to non-finance stakeholders.

(Note: Roles are generally tailored for operational accounting professionals; pure audit/public tax backgrounds or large enterprise-only experience may not align with all SMB/fractional placements.)
