Job description

Position Summary The Fort St.

John Association for Community Living (FSJACL) is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and results-oriented leader to serve as Director of Operations.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Operations is responsible for the overall operational leadership of the organization.

This role oversees finance, human resources, administration, housing operations, quality improvement, risk management, and service integration while ensuring organizational priorities are translated into measurable outcomes.

As the organization's operational integrator, the Director of Operations provides leadership, accountability, and coordination across departments.

The Director of Operations plays a key leadership role in building organizational capacity, supporting leaders, improving systems, managing risk, and ensuring the organization consistently delivers high-quality services to individuals, families, and our community.

The organization provides a diverse range of services, including community living supports, clinical services, employment services, housing initiatives, licensed housing programs, and innovative community-based solutions that help individuals achieve meaningful lives and greater independence.

Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Lead the day-to-day operations of the organization.

Ensure organizational priorities are implemented effectively across all departments.

Coordinate activities between operational service departments.

Monitor organizational performance and oversee operational improvements.

Remove barriers to efficient service delivery.

Lead organization-wide operational planning and implementation.

Oversee contract administration, service deliverables, reporting obligations, and funder compliance requirements.

Develop and monitor organizational key performance indicators (KPIs).

Lead technology adoption, process improvement, and operational modernization initiatives.

Leadership & People Management Provide direct leadership and supervision to the Director of Community Living Services, Director of Clinical Services, Financial Controller, Human Resources Coordinator, and Administrative Coordinator.

Coach and mentor leaders while supporting leadership development and succession planning.

Lead performance management and accountability processes.

Support employee engagement and retention strategies.

Provide conflict resolution and problem-solving support.

Build high-performing teams and promote cross-department collaboration.

Support a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Financial Leadership Lead the annual operating budget process in collaboration with the Financial Controller.

Monitor departmental financial performance and review monthly financial statements and forecasts.

Support month-end and year-end reporting processes.

Oversee cash flow planning and financial forecasting.

Ensure strong internal financial controls.

Monitor contract performance and funding agreements.

Support annual audits and funder reviews.

Develop operational and financial dashboards for leadership decision-making.

implement opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.

Human Resources & Organizational Development Provide oversight of recruitment, retention, onboarding, and orientation initiatives.

Oversee labour relations and collective agreement administration.

Ensure effective performance management systems are implemented.

Support workforce planning, employee wellness, and employee engagement.

Coordinate leadership development, training, and organizational development initiatives.

Ensure HR policy implementation and compliance.

Administration & Corporate Services Provide leadership for information technology and systems management.

Oversee SharePoint and document management systems.

Lead administrative services and office operations.

Ensure effective records management and information governance.

Support organizational policies and procedures.

Lead business continuity planning.

Coordinate corporate projects and administrative modernization initiatives.

Drive continuous improvement of organizational systems and workflows.

Quality, Risk & Compliance Lead organizational risk management and mitigation efforts.

Oversee continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Ensure CARF accreditation requirements.

Ensure regulatory and contractual compliance.

Provide leadership for occupational health and safety.

Coordinate emergency preparedness and response planning.

Lead business continuity and organizational resilience initiatives.

Maintain organizational performance measurement systems.

Strategic Implementation Translate strategic priorities into operational work plans.

Monitor progress toward organizational goals.

Identify operational risks and opportunities.

Provide recommendations to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Lead strategic projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.

Report on organizational performance through dashboards and regular operational reporting.

Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in business administration, Human Resources, Administration, or a related field is preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education and senior leadership experience will be considered.

Master's degree is considered an asset.

Experience A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive management or leadership experience.

A minimum of five (5) years leading multiple departments or operational functions.

Experience supervising senior leaders and professional staff.

Experience managing significant organizational budgets.

Experience leading organizational change initiatives.

Experience in labour relations and human resource management.

Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, social services, housing, government, or community-based organizations is considered an asset.

Knowledge & Skills Strategic leadership and organizational development.

Financial management and budgeting.

Human resources and labour relations.

Risk management and quality improvement.

Governance principles and policy implementation.

Performance measurement and KPI development.

Contract management and funding compliance.

Project management and organizational change.

Information systems and technology-enabled improvement.

Knowledge of Community Living BC, BC Housing, CARF accreditation standards, nonprofit funding models, and unionized workplaces is considered an asset.
