Job description

Position Summary

BCIT’s Digital Arts, Media and Design department within the School of Business + Media offers a range of programs in the areas of Animation and Gaming, Web and Mobile, and Communication and Graphics. We are currently seeking two (2) temporary, part-time (0.2 FTE) Instructors to teach full-time students in the Diploma in 3D Modeling, Art and Animation, from May to August 2026. Duties & Responsibilities The instructor assignments are for:

  • MDAA 4007 3D Arts Directed Studies (Two 20% positions available) Students in this course will be guided to the latest information about the techniques, industry trends, methodology and standards in their field of interest as it applies to their capstone project. At the start of the course, students will meet with their instructor and present their draft and pre-visualization project. Based on their field of interest and specialty, students will be directed to learning materials to help them apply the best approaches and techniques for their capstone project. Throughout the term, students will meet with their instructor in person or online to present their progress and receive feedback.
We are seeking individuals who are highly qualified, enthusiastic, committed to quality and innovation in meeting our students’ needs, and who value the importance of teamwork in the workplace. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or Degree in 3D Animation, Game Art, Visual Effects, Computer Graphics, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the film, animation, visual effects, or game development industry in a relevant discipline (e.g., modeling, animation, rigging, texturing, lighting, environment art, or technical art).
  • Demonstrated expertise in current 3D production pipelines, including modeling, texturing, animation, rendering, and real-time workflows used in industry.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, tools, and emerging trends in digital content creation.
  • Experience mentoring artists or supervising creative projects in a production or educational environment.
  • Ability to guide students in planning, researching, and executing complex capstone projects aligned with professional portfolio goals.
  • Experience providing constructive critique and artistic direction to help students refine visual quality, technical execution, and storytelling in their projects.
  • Strong understanding of demo reel development and portfolio presentation for entry-level positions in the animation, game, or visual effects industries.
  • Ability to assist students in identifying appropriate techniques, methodologies, and workflows for their individual specialization areas.
  • Experience evaluating research reports, project documentation, and visual presentations related to creative production pipelines.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor students through long-term project development.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous post-secondary teaching or mentoring experience.
  • Demonstrated industry success with appropriate and current experience and skills in the entire 3D pipeline including: 3D Modeling, Animating, Rigging, Texturing, Lighting, and Rendering.
  • Experience in Redshift, Arnold, and Unreal Engine.
