Job Title: Loader Operator

Job Description

This role operates within a manufacturing facility and outdoor yard, working as part of a small team to safely control the flow of inventory. The loader operator drives an outdoor diesel sit-down forklift/loader, supports shipping and receiving activities, communicates with delivery drivers, and helps maintain a clean and organized yard. The position plays a key role in ensuring materials move efficiently through the yard and into the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

• Operate an outdoor diesel sit-down forklift and cat loader to move, load, and unload materials safely and efficiently.
• Control the flow of inventory in the outdoor yard, ensuring materials are staged, stored, and moved according to operational requirements.
• Perform shipping and receiving activities, including loading and unloading flatbed trailers and verifying incoming and outgoing materials.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with delivery drivers to coordinate loading, unloading, and documentation.
• Handle materials for manufacturing and warehousing operations, including kitting, picking, packing, and inventory control tasks as required.
• Support general yard housekeeping by keeping work areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
• Follow all safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines while working in the yard and manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate with a team of approximately four people to meet daily production and logistics targets.
• Assist with additional tasks related to material handling and yard operations as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Strong experience operating a sit-down diesel forklift in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience operating an outdoor forklift or loader, ideally a diesel cat loader.
• Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving processes, including loading flatbed trailers.
• Experience in manufacturing facility warehousing, including material handling and inventory movement.
• Ability to perform kitting, picking, packing, and basic inventory control tasks.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with delivery drivers and team members.
• Commitment to safe equipment operation and adherence to workplace safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Overhead crane experience.
• Knowledge of oilfield equipment, particularly drilling rigs, is an asset.
• Valid forklift certification.
• Experience in a manufacturing or industrial yard environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing and warehousing facility with an outdoor yard located in southeast Calgary. The shop currently employs around 50 trades workers and has plans for significant expansion in 2026, creating a busy and collaborative industrial environment. Work involves operating diesel sit-down forklifts and a diesel cat loader in an outdoor yard, handling materials, and supporting shipping and receiving around flatbed trailers. The position follows a daytime shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 6:30 . to 3:00 ., with overtime available after 8 hours in any day. The environment is industrial and safety-focused, with typical shop and yard conditions, where appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment are required.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
