The successful applicant will be an important interface between the teams responsible for diagnostics and the teams responsible for building the LM26 experimental superstructure. Specifically, the engineer will design mechanical, mechatronic and optomechanical systems in collaboration with diagnostic engineers and/or diagnostic physicists. Consulting with stakeholders and coming up with creative solutions for challenging problems will be required. The position is primarily on-site at General Fusion’s facilities in Richmond, BC, and may require some shift work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design prototype equipment and components for challenging environments such as constrained spaces, high vacuum, plasma, high voltage, and high shock, related to diagnostics equipment or their interface to the experimental testbed
- Gather information and define functional and environmental requirements to design mechanical, optomechanical, or electromechanical apparatus to meet the requested needs
- Build, procure/fabricate, assemble, test, commission, operate, and improve prototype equipment in the laboratory
- Perform basic engineering analysis and simulations (FEA, thermal)
- Prepare and maintain thorough documentation of equipment, operating procedures, and test results
- Contributing to the growth of the team through knowledge sharing and participating actively in design reviews
- Collaborate within the organization to attain company goals
