Job description

The Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) Specialist will lead the evaluation of applications, systems, or programs to ensure compliance with privacy legislation such as FIPPA, PHIPA, and PIPEDA. This includes assessing privacy risks, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring alignment with legal, policy, and technical standards. The specialist will work with cross-functional teams to provide privacy guidance and develop PIAs for online and mobile digital solutions, including those involving personal and health-related data, integrating systems, and cloud or mobile technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct privacy impact assessments for digital systems handling personal and health information
  • Evaluate risks in web, mobile, cloud, and legacy system integrations
  • Ensure compliance with access and privacy legislation and standards (FIPPA, PHIPA, PIPEDA)
  • Provide security-by-design and strategic privacy maturity guidance
  • Interpret technical documents (architecture, process flows) to identify privacy issues
  • Collaborate with policy teams to ensure privacy alignment in policies and legislation
  • Engage in stakeholder sessions to gather requirements and document findings
  • Provide detailed recommendations and present findings to senior executives
  • Coordinate PIA sign-offs and maintain related documentation
  • Qualifications

  • Extensive experience conducting PIAs in digital environments involving health or personal data
  • Strong understanding of FIPPA, PHIPA, PIPEDA, and related privacy regulations
  • Familiarity with privacy risks in mobile, cloud, API-based, and digital wallet solutions
  • Experience with technical privacy controls, encryption, and architecture principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital identity standards like NIST, FIDO, and SAML
  • Ability to interpret complex technical and policy documentation
  • Strong communication, documentation, and leadership skills
  • Professional certifications in privacy, IT security, or architecture
  • Summary
