JOB SUMMARYProvides support to all departments using their expertise with respect to millwright duties and job functions. Responsible for installing, maintaining machinery and supporting structures efficiently, safely by following the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and in accordance with the plant standardsPay rate is $42.13 per hour.RESPONSIBILITIES1.Protect self and others by:Identifying, interpreting and applying applicable Acts, regulations, codes and directivesRecognizing, assessing and controlling hazards and hazardous conditions, equipment and materialIdentifying and using fire extinguishers and fire-fighting equipmentPerforming housekeeping duties to ensure a safe working environmentPracticing first aid in emergency situations and administering CPRSelecting, wearing, adjusting, using and maintaining personal protective apparel and equipmentPerforming lockout, tagging and hold-off procedures.2. Give and received oral and written instructions; read technical literature and manufacturer's specifications; write technical and environmental reports; write maintenance and job reports to company requirements; use computer and job maintenance software for specific applications.3. Read drawings and schematics; interpret manufacturer's manuals, specifications, and drawing symbols; draw and sketch using orthographic, isometric and sectional views; read and interpret schematic and logic diagrams, ensuring compliance with standards and specifications when installing and maintaining machinery and equipment.4. Use of hand and power tools such as: sockets, spanners, wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, chisels, punches, pliers, scrapers, drills, taps, reamers, dies, squares, tapes, snips, saws, tube and pipe benders, chippers, power jacks, portable seating and lapping equipment, threading machines, shears, magnetic drills, hand millers, power saws and impact tools to assemble, install and maintain machinery and equipment to manufacturer's specifications.5. Set up and use machines tools by: using charts and cutting speed tables; applying trade calculations and formulas; setting and operating lathe, milling machine, pedestal and radial drill, surface grinders, cut-off and band saw, hydraulic press, shears and machine tool accessories, in accordance with prescribed tolerances and specifications.6. Use and care of precision measuring equipment by: caring and using all precision measuring and alignment equipment and instruments when measuring, moving, setting up, and maintaining, machinery to manufacturer's specifications and prescribed tolerances.7. Select and use materials and fasteners which include:Identification and use of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, alloys and non-metallic materialsHeat treat and stress relieve material to requirementsUse thread systems for specific applicationsUse nuts, bolts, screws, dowels and chemical fasteners as required and to specificationsScaffolds, lifting devices and elevating platforms. 8. Select and apply lubricants and greases for specific applications; identify characteristics of lubricants, select and use oils and greases to manufacturer's specifications; select and use special purpose lubricants; install and maintain manual and automatic lubrication systems; handle and store lubricants safely, and maintain record system.9. Also responsible for assembling, erecting and locating scaffolds, lifting devices and elevating platforms; dismantling and storing scaffolds, lifting devices and elevating platforms; selecting and performing basic oxy-fuel cutting and welding procedures; and, scheduling electrical job-site material and equipment requirements.10. Plan lifts; perform calculations using load charts; select and use correct rigging/hoisting equipment; inspect and maintain rigging/hoisting equipment; use hand and radio signals.11. Install and maintain material handling systems such as:Belt, roller, bucket, chain, screw and air conveyor systemsIdlers, take-up units, scrapers, skirtingScreens, chutes, vibratorsDrive unitsOverhead cranes and hoistsSplice belts12. Install and maintain power transmission systems which includes the following:Perform trade calculations on horsepower ratiosAlign belts, 'V' belts, chains and pulleysShafts, speed reducers, gears, brakes, clutches and harmonic drivesMechanical, fluid, magnetic and centrifugal couplingsCams and followersUse keys, splines and bushingsRead engineering and component drawings to ensure installation and maintenance to specifications13. Install and maintain hydrodynamic and hydrostatic pumps such as: axial flow, centrifugal, mixed flow, reciprocal, rotary, diaphragm, lobe and liquid ring; install and maintain mechanical seals, packing, bearings and lube systems; in accordance with component drawings and manufacturer's specifications.14. Install, commission and maintain prime movers and machinery, which includes:Prepare site to specificationsLayout and prepare base or foundationInstall water or electric motors or generatorsLevel and align machinery and componentsSecure using anchors, bolts, fasteners and groutingTorque and tension fastenersConduct final checksStart-up and run-inRecord footprint/signature Maintain electric motors and generators to manufacturer's specifications and standards15. Set up and operate welding equipment, including arc, metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), and plasma; set up and operate gas welding equipment; braze and solder; read and interpret welding symbols; select and use non-metallic welding rods; lay out, fabricate and tack to specifications; set-up and operate spray welding equipment; work to be visually inspected and to specifications.16. Identify and apply bearing materials, fits and tolerances; fit and maintain plain journal, sleeve, radial and axial bearings; install and maintain bearing housings; fit and maintain anti-friction axial, radial, ball, roller, needle, taper and spherical bearings; inspect and lubricate bearings; fit and maintain gasket, labyrinth, and mechanical seals; fit and maintain 'O' ring and lip seals; apply chemical sealants; select, install and remove packing; ensure that maintenance and installation procedures are to prescribed standards.17. Install single and multi-stage fan and blower systems such as, centrifugal, axial and propeller fans; fans systems; dust collection and related systems; inspect and maintain control systems.18. Install and maintain pneumatic systems which includes:Applying pneumatic principles and safety proceduresFit and maintain pressure direction and flow control valvesTubing, piping and hosesRegulators, filters and oilersLinear and rotary actuatorsElectric and electronic proportional logic controlsRead and interpret schematic symbolsTroubleshoot pneumatic systemsApply trade calculations and formulasEnsure all procedures are prescribed to standards and specifications19. Install and maintain hydraulic systems, which includes the following:Apply hydraulic principles and safety proceduresHydraulic fluids, types and applicationsPower units, pump filters, accumulators and heat exchangersFilters, strainers and contamination controlsFluid conductors, pipe, tubing, hosing and associated fittingsFit and maintain pressure direction and flow control valvesRead and interpret schematics and symbolsLinear and rotary actuatorsElectric and electronic servo-proportional logic controlsApply trade calculations and formulas20. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance by:Using vibration analysis and balancing equipmentUse of non-destructive test equipmentUse computer to manage and schedule preventive and predictive maintenanceUse noise monitoring instrumentsUse temperature, pressure and fibre optic instruments to reduce incidence of equipment failure and to schedule routine maintenance to manufacturer's specifications SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Must hold a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification issued by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. Served a bona fide apprenticeship of 8,000 hours (and holds a certificate which substantiates this claim) or has eight years of practical experience as an industrial millwright (the Unifor journeyman/ woman's card will be accepted as proof)EFFORT•Requires sitting or standing at a workstation, and walking.•Requires periods of lifting, bending, and reaching to setup equipment, take measurements and examine parts.•Requires visual sensory concentration, as well as manual dexterity and the need for exact results and precision.•There are opportunities for breaks during routine operation. Periods of production upset and quality concerns require alertness and concentration.RESPONSIBILITY•There is some degree of job structure and a variety of tasks that are straightforward with some repetitiveness. In cases where the task requires the individual to make judgements, employees can use some discretion within predetermined limits and procedures. Some activities must be carried out in a team setting.•Assignments require early detection of problems and notification of appropriate staff.•Interaction with other staff is within the immediate area and communications are generally routine.
