The role
We are looking for a Construction Project Coordinator to support our Real Property Planning and Management Branch. The incumbent would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
The successful candidate will be exposed to a wide variety of buildings, including offices, laboratories and special use facilities (such as cleanrooms and wind tunnels) that offer an interesting work experience. As a Construction Project Coordinator, you will represent the NRC, the building owner on construction sites and will be expected to be the eyes and ears and spokesperson for the Project Manager who holds overall responsibility for the project.
The Construction Project Coordinator is expected to coordinate multiple projects and contracts simultaneously while ensuring that work is completed according to the tender documents and that industry best practices and all safety and building codes are respected. Due to the fast-paced working environment, the Construction Project Coordinator will need to have strong communication skills and must have experience working with contractors, consultants, and clients.
The projects range from renovations, restorations and alterations of NRC buildings and facilities to new construction and involve all construction trades and disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical. The project values can range from tens of thousands of dollars to millions of dollars depending on the complexity and size of the project being completed.
Screening criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
College diploma in Architectural, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering Technology.
A relevant trade license would also be considered.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
A certificate in construction management would be considered an asset.

Experience
- Significant* and recent** experience coordinating and providing oversight on multi-trade construction projects including providing support and ongoing status updates to the Project Manager.
- Significant* and recent** experience reading construction documentation (drawings and technical specification) and ensuring conformance of construction activities to tender documentation.
- Significant* experience in the identification and review of site-specific hazards, development and/or review of construction specific safety plans, and ensuring contractor adherence to federal and provincial safety standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Significant* experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders including clients, consultants, and contractors in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Experience supporting the Project Manager with preparing scope definitions and work packages for construction or retrofit projects (Requests for Quote (RFQ), Statements of Work (SOW), tender packages).
- Experience defining construction sequencing and reviewing constructability.
* Significant experience is defined as two (2) to six (6) years of experience.
** Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the last two (2) years.
Condition of employment
- Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position which include but may not be limited to: crouching, bending, twisting, walking, and climbing stairs and ladders.
- Must be able to obtain and retain a valid British Colombia Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Reliability Status.
For a Reliability Status, verification of background information over a period of 5 years is required.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
Technical competencies
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications as well as compare them to as-built details.
- Knowledge of construction practices and techniques particularly of the architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical trades.
- Knowledge of federal, provincial and/or local regulatory requirements including building and construction codes.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act for construction projects including safety standards and practices.
- Knowledge in the interpretation and management of construction contracts.
- Ability to coordinate the work of contractors for construction projects such as building additions, renovations, equipment installation and commissioning.

Compensation
From $66,126 to $91,012 per annum.
