As a leader in Canadian construction for over 100 years, the impact of our team is etched deeply within the core of our legacy. Beyond Bird, this impact is felt in the fundamental aspects of our everyday lives. From the critical infrastructure we depend on, to the energy and resources that keep us moving - we are powering our communities and shaping Canada’s skylines coast-to-coast. Entrenched in the foundation of a culture built more than a century ago is an enduring quest to reimagine what is possible. Our impact is greater than ever, and we are looking for those who seek to redefine their story.

You will build a career and long-lasting relationships based on respect, collaboration, and a solution-focused mindset. Bird is a place where you will unlock your potential and achieve your goals.

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Purchaser is pivotal in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of materials and services for our construction projects. • Ensure purchasing activities are recorded in Viewpoint and comply with company policies.
  • Analyze market trends for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Conduct cost analysis and risk reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Assess and mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Coordinate with project managers, construction managers, and quality assurance teams on quality issues.
  • Maintain procurement records, including purchase orders, contracts, and supplier agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to schedule and forecast material and equipment needs.
  • Manage and maintain supplier relationships, resolving issues and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Create accurate purchase orders and procurement documents.
  • Implement procurement strategies to meet project requirements and timelines.
  • Maintain supplier performance metrics.
  • Assist the Estimating team with RFX packages for proposal pricing.
  • Coordinate and communicate with site teams to ensure procurement needs are met.

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or a related field, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with electrical construction materials, equipment, and industry standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a electrical trade is preferred.
  • SMT (Supply Management Training) or SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional) designation is highly desirable or enrollment in the SCMP program is considered an asset.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records and track orders.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to handle disputes or issues with suppliers during the procurement process.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, changing environment to maintain the highest standards with respect to quality and accuracy of work.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • We Put Safety First

A healthy and safe work environment is non-negotiable. We build a culture of operational and psychological safety through engagement, learning and leadership.

    We Lead With Honesty

We speak and act with integrity, clarity and care so people can trust our word and our work. Being honest means we can deliver the best outcomes and consistent results.
