Job description
There are multiple casual positions available. Compensation includes a competitive EFAP and optional OMERS pension.

Position Summary: The Child Care Worker (CCW) is responsible for the daily care, guidance, support and direct supervision of the youth residing in a staffed resource unit. The CCW creates a physically safe and emotionally nurturing environment designed to assist the youth in learning to cope and function positively, both in the home and in the community. Many youth have experienced trauma, mental health challenges, behavioral difficulties, or addictions. Using trauma-informed approaches, the CCW creates a safe, stable and supportive environment that promotes healing, skill development and positive life outcomes. Duties may include, but are not limited to, preparing meals, organizing and actively participating in activities, keeping records of progress, routines, and interests; providing transportation as needed; assisting with activities of daily living while following all relevant legislation and Agency policies and procedures.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Core competencies include trauma informed practice; empathy & relationship building; crisis intervention / de-escalation, flexibility and adaptability; professionalism and integrity.
  • Knowledge of child development, behaviour management, and First Nations culture is an asset.
  • Skills in counselling, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and problem solving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to professionally document and take case notes.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in stressful, high-pressure situations.
Qualifications:
  • Child & Youth Care Worker Diploma, SSW, or related education is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with vulnerable youth living in out of home placements.
  • Experience supporting youth with trauma, mental health, behavioural, or addiction related challenges
  • Must be medically fit to work in a staffed home setting with proof of immunizations as per Canadian Immunization Guide.
  • Applicants with similar academic qualifications and related experience may be considered.
  • First Aid/CPR, CPI, ASIST, SOGIE training preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have access to a vehicle with an OPCF6A Insurance endorsement and minimum of $1,000,000 Liability.
  • Satisfactory Broad Record Check, Internal Records Check, and Drivers Abstract are required.
