Science Stores supports the procurement of laboratory materials, supplies, and reagents essential for research and teaching on the Burnaby Campus. It offers researchers, technicians, and instructors convenient, off the shelf access to commonly used materials, equipment, reagents, solvents, personal protective equipment (PPE), and consumables.
About the Role
This position is responsible for providing customer service and overseeing the operation and control of the Science Stores reception area. They are responsible for helping to obtain materials behind the counter, maintaining shelf stock levels, data entry into the Science Stores computer system to ensure accurate recording of ordering, receiving, and billing for goods and services. The position helps to cover and provides support for the Receiver during busy periods, breaks, scheduled days off, and vacations by performing their duties to ensure continued services including ordering, shipping and receiving.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized and service-oriented professional that has familiarity with lab supplies, materials and reagents. The candidate can demonstrate good judgment, effective communication, attention to detail, along with the ability to work independently while collaborating with internal teams and vendors. Experience with inventory control, and customer service will support success in this role.
Qualifications
High school graduation and two years of post-secondary education or formal certificate/diploma program equivalent that includes courses in Chemistry. Understanding of scientific nomenclature. 1 - 2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Good knowledge of standard office practices, methods and equipment.
- Knowledge of inventory control, record-keeping, and standard operational procedures.
- Ability to successfully complete both the Transportation of Dangerous Goods - Surface the certification for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods - Air from Transport Canada. (Training will be provided).
- Familiarity with lab materials and supplies such as chemicals, glassware, personal protective equipment and consumables.
