Job description

We’re building a relationship-oriented bank for the modern world. We need talented, passionate professionals who are dedicated to doing what’s right for our clients.

At CIBC, we embrace your strengths and your ambitions, so you are empowered at work. Our team members have what they need to make a meaningful impact and are truly valued for who they are and what they contribute.

To learn more about CIBC, please visit

What you’ll be doing

Technology Infrastructure and Innovation (TI&I) spans the areas of Technology, Information Security, Deposit Operations, Loan Operations, Project Management, Data Management Office, Corporate Real Estate, Corporate Security, and Risk & Governance. TI&I delivers operational excellence by effectively managing the technology and operations required to run the bank, enables the bank's transformation by focusing on clients, innovating for the future and simplifying operations and supporting the bank's growth objectives through flawless execution of strategic initiatives.

Governance and Oversight is a First Line control group within the Three Lines of Defense model. As a first line control group, we empower CIBC’s Control Framework, which sets out the objectives for the design of the internal control environment aligned to the Risk Appetite Statement (RAS). We serve the Bank’s strategy to deliver a superior client experience through the stewardship of sustained and effective risk discipline. US TI&I Governance & Oversight enables the Bank’s strategic mandate to maintain financial strength and risk discipline while advancing our purpose-driven culture. We collaborate with the strategic Business Units and work across Functional Groups to grow our business resiliency and value while managing risk. In addition, we steward the processes for assessing the design and operating effectiveness of the internal control environment, and we strengthen the CIBC Risk Management Framework with related policies and processes.

As a member of the US Technology, Infrastructure & Innovation Governance & Oversight (G&O), you’ll support the risk management activities for the Data Management Office (DMO) team. This will include supporting the business in the identification of controls, participating in risk assessments, leading remediation of deficiencies, writing of procedures, monitoring business processes, and reporting on business risk outcomes. This role will liaise with the second and third lines of defense on new/ changes to risk programs, gathering evidence and support during exams, and providing subject matter expertise over the DMO processes executed by the teams. You will exercise independent judgement within defined procedures and provide recommendations for best practices through experiences and observation, for use by other team members as part of knowledge sharing and to ensure consistency in approach. In addition, you will solve business, operations and technical problems within the scope of your role, escalating unusual cases outside of documented procedures to management. The role receives general instructions on routine work and requires limited direction

How you’ll succeed

  • Internal client engagement – Meet with internal clients to understand their priorities and advise them on Operational risk management solutions. Use your knowledge of Operational risk management to protect the organization by providing proactive advisory services to Data Management in deploying risk management measures and in remediating known issues.

  • Communication – Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills. You will communicate effectively with internal and external teams, and different lines of business.

  • Relationship management – You’ll create trusted advisory relationships with all partners across all lines of defense, inclusive of Operational Risk Management, Internal Audit, Enterprise counterparts, and control assessment teams.

  • Collaboration – Engaging with cross functional teams across all three lines of defense to foster open communication, value diverse perspectives, ensuring that all voices are heard, and contributing to shared success. You will build trust within the team, encouraging a supportive environment that enhances creativity and problem-solving.

  • Time and project management – Leverage your strong project management skills to proactively manage timelines and keeping direct managers and internal client informed of predicted/ preliminary results

  • Understand requirements – Conduct analysis of processes and functional requirements to provide proactive advice and guidance to internal stakeholders to ensure that the requirements and work packages are appropriately defined and completed.

  • Risk Assessment/Risk Consulting - Work closely with line of business (LOB) partners to proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps. Analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses, root causes and control gaps. Lead the assessment and recommendation of self-assessed deficiencies to mitigate risk exposures and control gaps. Acts as the risk and controls Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing expert advice to Line of Business partners. Participate in business, governance and regulatory projects, typically medium to highly complex initiatives, to identify risk and control issues. Lead all exams (Internal Audits, etc.) for the LOB regarding audit scope review & finalization, requests for information, fieldwork support and potential deficiency management.

  • Risk Subject Matter Expertise – Understand and communicate requirements related to data management, inclusive of AI and data governance. Be able to translate risk requirements into process and controls. Identify efficiency opportunities within existing processes to ensure process

  • Control Framework Design/Execution/Management - Understand and communicate Control Framework requirements to LOB partners to ensure awareness and understanding and impacts. Lead the completion of CIBC Control Framework requirements, including Risk and Controls Self Assessments (RCSAs), Key Regulatory Indicators (KRIs). Act as the Maintenance Officer for Operational Process Controls (OPCs), Financial Process Controls (FPCs) and Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) controls. Develop & present Executive Reporting on the governance & controls environment of the sub LOB.

Who you are

  • You have 7+ years of Banking experience, specializing in data management and overall risk management. You have well-developed project management and strategic business-planning skills with the ability to develop plans/tactics to support strategies & objectives.

You understand complex issues and concepts related to new and evolving business needs, and can get up to speed quickly with regard to new subject matters and are able to deal with changing circumstances and priorities.

  • Your influence makes an impact. You know that relationships and networks are essential to success. You inspire outcomes by making yourself heard.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package.
