Data Management Technical Architect (Toronto Region)

Job Overview:
Senior member of data management team that supports enterprise clients utilizing Symantec NetBackup and Enterprise Vault. Candidate must possess a superior knowledge of NetBackup 6.x/7.x and be dedicated to customer satisfaction. The candidate will be required to identify, remediate and report on backup issues while following well defined processes and procedures. Candidate will also be required to prepare progress reports, utilize a work ticket/tracking system and will report directly to an operations manager.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Perform a daily review and report on backup success/failure from across the enterprise
- Troubleshoot and remediate backup failures thru to resolution
· Restore data from tape within the restrictions of a service level agreement
· Install and configure Symantec NetBackup Client software on Unix/Windows/Linux servers
· Administer the NetBackup application on clients, servers and media servers
· Perform NetBackup catalogue restores
· Configure and maintain Symantec reporting tools as well as custom reporting scripts
· Identify, troubleshoot and remediate tape library issues
· Work with DBA’s to backup and restore Oracle, SQL, Informix, Exchange and SAP databases
· Liaise directly with Tape Management and H/W support vendors
· Direct and maintain ownership of HW/SW escalation cases through backline and/or local support organizations
· Provide input and participate in root cause analysis
· Participate in disaster recovery exercises
· Perform audit tests per Service Level Agreements
· Maintain documentation
Mandatory Skills Requirement:
- 3+ years relevant Symantec NetBackup administration experience
- Strong working knowledge of backup and recovery products and processes
- 3+ years System Administration (HP-UX, Solaris, Linux and Windows)
- Understanding of SAN/NAS/DAS technologies
- Familiarity with various snapshot and BCV technologies
- Knowledge and understanding of tiered storage technologies (Disk, tape, VTL etc)
- Understanding of basic data network technologies, including LAN and WAN
- Programming/Scripting languages (Bourne, KSH, CSH and Perl)
Soft Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
- Experience working in remotely supported environments
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving abilities
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with the following a plus:
- Backup Exec
- VBR/NOM or Symantec Ops Center
- Bilingual
Education & Training
- Technical College Certificate or equivalent experience
- Completion of vendor technology courses relevant to the position
Please note this position may require candidate to work afterhours and some weekend day.
