Job description

Do you notice the misplaced comma, the inconsistent capitalization, or the awkward sentence everyone else misses? Can you improve a piece of content without losing the writer's meaning or the client's voice?

Digital Shift is expanding, and we're hiring three to four additional Content Proofreaders & Editors to keep up with growing client demand. This role is ideal for an experienced editor with a background in content writing, an excellent command of English, and practical knowledge of SEO.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Work remotely: Work from the comfort of your home.
  • Choose a schedule that fits: Full-time hours with flexibility. Set consistent daily start and end times that work for your life while meeting deadlines and team commitments.
  • Paid training: Build confidence in our clients, processes, tools, and quality standards through paid onboarding and role-specific training.
  • Mentorship: Ongoing guidance and feedback from the Content Lead and senior team members.
  • Portfolio diversity: Build a varied portfolio across home service industries, content formats, clients, and markets.

Your Day-to-Day

Picture it: a Google Doc lands in your queue, a service page for a plumbing company in Toronto or an HVAC contractor in Texas. It reads okay. But okay isn't what we ship. You tighten the flow, fix the comma splice in paragraph three, confirm the service details are accurate, and make sure the keywords sit naturally instead of jammed in. Then you push the clean version live in the CMS and send back a page the client is proud to publish.

You're the last set of eyes before content goes out, and the Content Lead, our writers, and the SEO team will lean on your judgment every single day.

What You'll Do

  • Edit and proofread client content (web pages, articles, service pages, marketing materials) for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, tone, and consistency.
  • Improve readability and structure while preserving the writer's meaning and the client's voice.
  • Make sure every piece follows its creative brief, style guide, and client-specific guidelines.
  • Fact-check names, locations, services, and claims, and flag plagiarism or unsupported information.
  • Check that target keywords appear naturally and in the right places, applying SEO best practices without hurting readability.
  • Prepare clean final drafts for client approval, then publish and update content directly in the CMS.
  • Manage multiple assignments while staying responsive on our project management and team tools.

What You'll Bring

  • A bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 2-3+ years of professional editing and proofreading experience (candidates with more experience are welcome).
  • Previous content writing experience, ideally for websites or other digital platforms.
  • An exceptional command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and usage, including comfort switching between Canadian and US conventions.
  • Practical knowledge of SEO principles, search intent, and natural keyword integration.
  • Comfort with the day-to-day tools: Google Docs, Grammarly, and content management platforms such as WordPress or Crownpeak, including publishing and updating content directly in a CMS. You use the tools to support your editorial judgment, not replace it.
  • Familiarity with editorial style guides and formatting standards.
  • Meticulous attention to detail. You catch the subtle stuff.
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to meet deadlines across multiple assignments.
  • A self-motivated, dependable approach to fully remote work.
