Position Overview

As the Senior Packaging Developer, you will lead packaging development activities across multiple brands and sites. You will serve as a recognized internal Subject Matter Expert (SME) and mentor, driving medium/high complexity projects for cost optimization, manufacturing efficiency, and supply continuity across a portfolio of brand and products.

This role blends strategic influence with hands-on technical leadership- partnering with Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Brand teams to ensure packaging systems are optimized for performance, cost, and long-term resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Development: Translate business objectives into technically robust packaging solutions. Lead packaging development of multiple complex, cross-functional projects aligned to business priorities while utilizing sound technical skills and analytical tools.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply knowledge of material science, manufacturing processes, tolerances, filling systems, palletization and distribution. Utilize analytical tools and test methodologies to validate performance and optimize designs.
  • Efficiency and Optimization: Troubleshoot packaging-related manufacturing inefficiencies, quality defects, and waste drivers. Lead packaging validation, line trials, and commercialization activities to ensure seamless plant execution.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with R&D, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Operations to align packaging initiatives with operational needs and capabilities. Act as an internal SME within the packaging function, providing expert guidance across teams.
  • Mentorship & Capability Building: Mentor colleagues and junior developers, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing across the organization.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, tools, and methodologies in areas of expertise. Identify, develop, and execute cost reduction opportunities across packaging materials, formats, specifications, and suppliers.
  • Standards & Best Practices: Develop, document, and present standards and best practices, ensuring consistency and excellence in packaging development.
  • Leadership in Execution: Influence without authority across Operations, Procurement, QA, and Marketing. Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring milestones, budgets, and deliverables are met while maintaining the highest technical standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Package Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in packaging development and project management within the food and beverage industry with a track record of delivering innovation in consumer products
  • Technical Expertise: Strong background in packaging materials, analytical methods, and sustainability tools
  • Leadership: Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Systems Proficiency: Skilled in SAP, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and palletization software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Root Cause Corrective Action and related analytical tools
  • Demonstrated expertise in sustainable packaging design and knowledge of alternative distribution channels (, club stores, e-commerce)
