Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-drivenprofessional to join our team in the role of Computer Hardware Engineer.

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, this position is responsible to develop, test, and maintain high-quality control computer systems including the development of replacement components / controllers in Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC), responding to technical issues in these systems, and ensuring compliance with design governance.

Key Accountabilities

• Integrate new or replacement designs into existing control computer systems.
• Hardware Development Tools : Utilize computer component development tools to design, test, and refine control computing system components.
• Register-Transfer Level Design : Create, modify, and troubleshoot RTL for computers and digital controllers, ensuring seamless integration with system operations while ensuring nuclear quality assurance program governance standards.
• Design in Hardware Description Languages : Design, develop, and maintain digital logic using VHDL to meet system requirements and ensure operational functionality.
• Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC) : Manage, implement, and enhance Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC) to ensure reliable and efficient system performance.
• Preparation of Design Documentation : Prepare comprehensive computer hardware design documents, detailed work plans for installation, and Engineering Change packages to support system updates and improvements.
• Lab-Based Computing Work : Perform development, testing, and troubleshooting in a computer lab environment, ensuring accurate design and validation of developed solutions.
• Understanding of digital logic, computer architecture, digital electronics, computer buses, and basic operating system concepts.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions.
