This is a Monday to Friday position working primarily from the Kamloops office, with occasional travel to project sites in the surrounding area. Rotational and extended travel are not required.

The Project Manager will oversee civil construction projects from planning and mobilization through execution and closeout. The role will focus heavily on the commercial and contractual aspects of project delivery, including budgeting, forecasting, RFIs, change orders, contract administration and client negotiations.

Site Superintendents are responsible for daily field execution, while the Project Manager ensures projects remain financially successful, on schedule and compliant with contractual requirements.

This opportunity is well suited to a construction professional with progressive experience who has advanced into project management. Previous field experience is considered an asset, particularly for someone who understands how project decisions affect execution in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Manage civil construction projects from planning and mobilization through completion and closeout
  • Take ownership of the commercial and contractual components of assigned projects
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, schedules and resource plans
  • Monitor project costs, productivity and financial performance
  • Complete cost to complete forecasting and variance analysis
  • Prepare and manage RFIs, contracts, change orders and extra work documentation
  • Work with the estimating team to price change orders and additional scope
  • Negotiate project matters directly with clients and stakeholders
  • Ensure contractual requirements, specifications and deliverables are understood and met
  • Work closely with Site Superintendents responsible for daily field execution
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, procurement and equipment requirements
  • Identify commercial, contractual and operational risks
  • Maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle
  • Prepare project reports and provide regular updates to senior leadership
  • Ensure project documentation is complete, current and properly maintained
  • Support project safety, quality and regulatory requirements
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously when required
  • Lead project closeout, including documentation and financial reconciliation
  • Support and mentor project team members
  • Travel to local project sites as required

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of direct Project Manager experience in civil construction is preferred
  • Progressive experience within civil construction, ideally advancing through project coordination into project management
  • Previous field experience is considered an asset
  • Experience with heavy civil, mining, earthworks, underground utilities, pipelines, road construction or related infrastructure projects
  • Direct experience managing contracts, RFIs, change orders and client negotiations
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, cost control and project financial experience
  • Demonstrated responsibility for the commercial performance of assigned projects
  • Experience working closely with Site Superintendents and field leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, contract administration and project delivery
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Sound judgment and the ability to recognize and manage project risk
  • Highly organized, adaptable and attentive to detail
  • Post secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline is considered an asset
  • P.Eng. designation or PMP certification is considered an asset
  • Experience with HeavyJob and HeavyBid is considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Valid First Aid and CSTS 2020 certification, or the ability to obtain them
  • Ability to complete required drug and alcohol testing and site orientations
  • Based in Kamloops or willing to relocate to the area

The organization offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits and long term professional development opportunities. Potential career paths include Senior Project Management, Estimating and Contracts Management.
