Position Summary
Registered Nurse NCI Resource Pool (Telemetry / Cardiac Care Clinic)
Your goal in this position is to provide support in the Telemetry Unit as well as the Cardiac Care Clinic by demonstrating excellent patient and family driven care, in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner.
You will do this by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of care providers. You have a specialty-based focus that supports the nursing based clinical management of patients with rhythm disturbances.
You will be part of a team applying knowledge-based practices for the care of cardiac patients across a spectrum of cardiac conditions with a strong focus on patients with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIED).
You’re a great relationship builder and foster close contacts with peers across the entire organization. You have great interpersonal skills, and effortlessly connect with physicians, staff, patients, and families.

On a practical level, you will
- On a practical level, you will :
- Demonstrate the ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice per the College of Nursing in Ontario
- Apply a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and clinical competence in triaging, assessing, and supporting cardiac patients in the Cardiac Care Clinic, and the Telemetry Unit.
- Assist with the intra and post-operative phases of implantable cardiac devices phase including programming, lead assessment and troubleshooting device programming in collaboration with the Cardiologist.
- Assess implantable cardiac devices during and post implantation including verifying the settings and analyze whether the pacemaker settings are appropriate for patient’s clinical status, including an assessment of the leads and battery function.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position role requires wearing of lead apron during device implantation procedure
- Collaborate with clinicals teams within the Cardiac Care Clinic Programs and 6 WEST Cardiology Unit to provide comprehensive care to patients
- Demonstrate clinical competence with Medical and surgical nursing skills
- Communicate effective (written and verbal) with patients, members and clinical teams
- Think critically, set priorities, problem solve and effectively manage time when caring for patients
- Be committed to ongoing learning, professional development and continuous quality improvement
- Have proficient skill level with computer software applications (e.g. Microsoft word), Internet searches and Electronic health record systems (e.g. Cerner)
- Demonstrate your ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations
Qualifications
- Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum (2) years’ experience in cardiac device interrogation and programming, preferred
- Minimum (2) years’ telemetry experience, required
- Demonstrated proficiency in the interrogation, testing and programming of implantable cardiac devices, preferred
- Previous Pacemaker Clinic, cath lab and / or cardiac device implantation lab experience, preferred
- Expertise in comprehensive cardiac nursing assessment
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certificate, required
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support, required
- Coronary Care 1 & 2, required
- Critical Care Certificate, preferred
- NASPE certification an asset
