Summary :
This position is responsible for the production of parts on a NC Knee milling machining.
The NC / CNC operator assistant will assist senior NC / CNC operator with loading and unloading parts that are set up on CNC vertical machines when required and must be able to accurately measure parts in process on the vertical machines using measuring tools provided and report on discrepancies to senior NC / CNC operator, and advise accordingly while maintaining a detailed logbook of work completed daily and problems encountered during production run.
The general machinist is expected to have met all the intermediate levels requirements, plus the duties described below.
Responsibilities :
- Accurately interpret and read engineering drawings;
- Meet all drawing requirements and tolerances as required per drawing;
- Set up, program and run NC Knee Milling machine; including setting feed rate and speeds and maintenance of tools;
- Perform first off inspection : ensure parts are within tolerances and dimensions provided on inspection sheets and drawings.
Additional Duties :
- Demonstrate above average operational proficiency on NC knee Mill machine;
- Work independently to produce engineering jigs, lids, carries, brackets and barriers;
- Compute dimensions and tolerances and lay out work pieces;
- Prepare clamps and fixtures for setups based on required specifications;
- Able to accurately resolve problems and issues that arise;
- Able to assist CNC operator with loading parts on CNC vertical machine when needed;
- Comply with safety practices, including the use of personal protective equipment;
- Housekeeping Maintain an organized, clean and safe work area.
Education : High School minimum
High School minimum
College / vocational or technical training credentials preferred.
Additional certificates, licenses, memberships as trained machinist an asset.
Skills / Requirements :
- Minimum of five years hands on experience operating a manual or NC Knee milling machine;
- Three to five years working knowledge on Bridgeport or TRAK NC Knee Mills;
- Two to three years experience with NC Knee mill controls;
- Above average ability to interpret complex drawings to set-up, program, and operate NC Knee Mill machine;
- Above average ability to programming and running NC files;
- Able to create NC files from .dxf and .step files using MasterCam
- Able to transfer MasterCam files to NC files in order to accurately manufacture jigs, lids, fixtures and small housings in accordance to drawing specs;
- Good understanding of MasterCam to create and transfer NC program files to NC Knee Milling machine;
- Good manual dexterity and good attention to detail;
- Ability to stand for long periods of time;
- Ability to work independently and resolve problems in order to : maintain a safe work environment, meet quality requirements, and meet production schedules;
- Able to manufacture small complex aluminum parts including : prototype housings, brackets, lids, and jigs to required drawing specifications within all specified tolerances;
- Meet all yearly WHMIS safety training and certification requirements;
- Exceed daily and weekly throughput expectations as required by supervisors;
- Maintain an above average attendance;
- Maintain an above average punctuality.
Additional Skill Sets :
- Knowledge of operating a CNC Vertical Machine and Wire EDM is an asset, but not critical;
- Experience working with Aluminum 6061, Copper and Brass materials.
