Role description :
Arcadis Canada is seeking an experienced Environmental Technician that can operate and maintaining environmental treatment systems to join our Resilience team in the Greater Toronto Area.
In this role, the one can except to support our on-going remediation projects at various sitesthroughout the GTA, including but not limited to : operation and maintenance of remedial systems, environmental monitoring and sampling, subcontractor oversight, and data management and reporting.
Role responsibilities :
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing remedial system O&M / OMM (Operations, Maintenance and Monitoring), installation oversight, troubleshooting, optimization, and monitoring / sampling activities including :
- Performing oversight for the installation of various remediation systems
- Operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, repairing, and adjusting remedial system machinery and equipment including pumps, valves, motors, blowers, compressors, meters, tanks, reservoirs, feeders, and other equipment toensure system is operating optimally
- Performing system preventative maintenance procedures, calibrations, and checks.
Furthermore, the successful candidate will also be responsible for providing prompt communication to project management teams when equipment is not safe and / or functioning at optimal performance to meet project objectives and provide recommendations for improvement and / or system enhancements.
Overseeing subcontractors retained to perform system maintenance and / or repairs, conduct routine preventative maintenance, and system monitoring and sampling.
All work will be conducted in accordance with Health and Safety requirements, which is an important part of the role. Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner and controlled manner.
This role will also include supporting other environmental projects, such as environmental assessments site assessments, risk assessments, and remediation projects.
Monitoring and supervising drilling and remediation activities, preparing field notes, collecting soil, surface water, sediment, vapour, and groundwater samples, and supporting data tabulation and report writing may also be required.
The successful candidate should expect to travel 85% of the time to sites within Ontario, most often in the Greater Toronto Area.
Role accountabilities :
As an Operations and Maintenance Remediation Environmental Technician your role accountabilities will include :
- Solving field problems related to remediation systems, mechanics, and plumbing.
- Maintaining strong understanding of field protocols for soil, groundwater, and vapour sampling.
- Ensuring familiarity with provincial and federal regulatory frameworks (e.g., O.Reg.).
- Diligently interpreting environmental data and maintain detailed field notes and reports.
- Adhering to health and safety standards and policies.
- Preparing reports documenting inspection and investigation results.
Qualifications & Experience :
The O&M Remediation Environmental Technician will be inclined with strong attention to detail and accuracy and have Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience operating and maintaining remediation systems (e.g., pump and treat, soil vapor extraction, air sparge systems, sub-slab depressurization systems), and experience supervising remedial programs (e.
g., excavations, treatment systems, chemical amendments) are required skills for this role. The ability to perform mechanical tasks such as changing oil in motors, applying grease, plumbing PVC lines, and collecting system flow performance data is essential.
Required Qualifications :
- Technical Diploma or Bachelors Degree in environmental science, engineering, earth sciences, or related field
- 5+ years experience in maintaining remediation / treatment systems, field sampling, site investigation, and subcontractor management
- Valid driving license and access to a personal vehicle
A C. Tech or C.E.T designation, or eligibility for P.Eng. or P.Geo. will be considered an asset for the role but are not required.
